need advice on x5?

So living in Buffalo, Ny i only enjoy the m3 over the summer time. Durring the winter i just drive around a ford ranger because i sold the wrx sti. I recently came across a 2002 bmw x5 and was interested in it. yeah its a little older and has 100,000 miles on it but ive heard they are decent winter cars as long as you change to winter tires. Just wanting anyways opinions on picking this thing up in terms of how they are in snow, common problems? i have done some research but i always ask the bmw population there opinion because someone always has something good to say.
