Recognise This Dud?

Well, it didn't take long for this 'beauty' to pop back up on CarSales!

What's the story behind this thing? Also curious to know what this "tamper dot" is?

Tamper dot is that cool looking dot on the cluster ... It's kinda self explanatory it just means the cluster has been modified or changed aka stay away from that car...

I probably wasn't very clear, I knew what the term referred to, just unsure what it is you have seen which shows signs of dubious behavior.

It's shown when the VIN coded to the cluster and the VIN of the various other modules in the car don't match or the KMs on the cluster varies from the KMs stored in other modules.

Considering that the cluster has the small screen to the right of the main centre screen it indicates that the cluster is out of an Automatic / SMG E46. Could even be out of a non-m based on the lack of gauge rings (previous owner could've just used an M3 face plate.)

When the car was previously for sale the number plates were IBSR which stands for Image Body Smash Repairs which only multiplies the dodgyness of the wrong cluster and vert window switches..

Know a bit based on my time on the forums but still didn't pick up a couple of things when I bought my M3.. Still got more to learn!

I guess they are hoping someone will be as stupid as they were or they are complete idiots and thought it was an easy way to make 10k.

HAHAHAHAHA what's more funny is the dud who actually purchased this car and took it all the way to TAS. I would be to ashamed to be the owner of that car to even put it up for sale!!

And notice the baby seat - makes for a clean back seat I'm sure :s

Get this I had to do it - I messaged the seller and asked why it had 3 different trims and a smg cluster with the tamper light on and this was his reply "the 3 trim colours were a special factory option, very very rare. And the cluster was also an added factory option and is much more accurate than a regular m3 cluster. And that is not a tamper light it's a light that's on because the car is unlocked". HAHAHAHHAHA honestly the quality of that response shows the lack of knowledge of the owner. Honestly how bad....

Looks like a normal Auto cluster partly modified (e.g. replaced dials) to look like an M3. Tamper dot clearly visible hahaha. String of sellers might end up in prison!

I've just reported the ad to CarSales. The dot is clearly illuminated next to the "km" letters.
After seeing the sellers response I'm glad I reported it, what a twat...
