IKHA dead. Fuses good. No error codes.

IHKA ... Turned car over. Glanced down to check that AC was on in this heat wave - it was - and right while I was looking it went complete dark. Lights off. Checked for any error codes - none. Checked fuses - good.

This is an original unit in a vehicle with a 9/99 build date.

The reboot made no change to the problem.

That it went completely dark makes me think it is a fuse. There are other fuses hiding around on our car...IDK if hvac control has one built into the back of it, but that's possible...and then there are fuses in the e-box (under hood) and behind fuse panel.

Check Bentley or spaghettidecoder.org and see if you can find a blown fuse and/or maybe a burned up wire/connection.

If you have any aftermarket electronics installed at all, I'd begin by looking at them.

First time I recall reading about the control unit going dark, so hope you figure it out soon.

no aftermarket electronics - not my thing. Searching around did turn up this particular E46 design unit was failing early on and being replaced under warranty back in the day...my units design is the one that was failing (mine is the pre-2000 automatic climate control version)... Bentley shows 3 fuses protecting it and they are all well and good. thanks
