Custom ashtray switch panel

These custom panels are water jet cut from 1/8in black ABS plastic. They can be used for anything from powering angel eyes, interior lights, or an aftermarket amp (my setup) or if you decide to run a cannonball run they could control brake lights, radios, or GPS', the possibilities are endless. By using water jet cutting the panel is cut to the exact dimensions of the ashtray. In doing so the panel can be securely held in the tray simply by pressure. I have had my panel installed in my car for almost a year and I have never had a problem with it moving around. This design keeps the panel in place when you want it to be, but also allows you to remove it if you want to change something which is very helpful. Pricing for these custom panels will be, $30 for a 3 switch panel that sits in the ashtray with the cigarette extinguisher in place, $40 for a 4 switch panel that deletes the cigarette lighter and fits into the ashtray, and $75 for a 3 switch and 2 USB panel that also deletes the extinguisher and fits in the ashtray. The USB panel will come with 2 six foot Mediabridge USB cords pre-mounted onto the panel. They can be plugged into a 5v stepdown to power any USB device, or plugged into the back of a headunit to provide easy access for files. Every panel will be shipped with X-number of Red LED toggle switches pre-installed that match the interior and instructions for installation. Shipping for the non-USB panels will be $2 flat anywhere in the US. Shipping for the USB panels will be $4 as they must be shipped in boxes instead of padded envelopes. Post a comment with what panel you are interested in and I will send you a PM.

nissan00b He went with a different route and used his own switches, then he used the opposite side of the panel that is a gloss black but has many scratches (comes from the supplier this way), sanded it down, then painted it with flat black paint:

Custom ashtray switch panel

Material is in hand I will be using 1/8 ABS black plastic. I already created the template but I cant get laser time till Tuesday. So I will post pictures Tuesday or Wednesday. I am making it with 3 switches but I believe there is enough room to have 4 switches if needed. Also I may be able to laser engrave labels above each switch but I have to experiment with the ABS.

Definitely curious to see what design you are creating. This is my current one. I like the fact that it lights up in the on position.

One of the switches is faulty. The light is dimly lit in the off position. The switch functions, but that light annoys the crap out of me.

To fix the switch I believe you just have to switch the ground and power wires on the back of the switch. I actually am using the exact same switch but with red LEDs. Im keeping the cigarette extinguisher and putting a sensor in it for my interior lights. What do you have wired to the switches? Also how did you mount it? I was thinking about filling mcdonalds straws with liquid nail. Then gluing them to the corners of the ashtray and have 4 screws in each corner of the panel going into the liquid nail.

2 were powering lights for the audio install. 2 were left unused for future use.

I also can't take credit for the install. It was ca1242 and cynical wry. I can tell you that they used glue to hold the panel down.

I actually like your 4 screws back-up. That makes it more solid.

That sensor idea sounds intricate. Red LEDs... hmmm.... Sounds nice.

Laying in the ashtray. I still need to shave down the pieces in the ashtray so it fits properly. But it just gives you an idea of how it will look. It fits very snuggly inside the ashtray

Why did you keep the cigarette holder?

I kept the cigarette holder because I am filing down the insert and mounting an IR antenna into it for my interior lights.

If anyone is interested I will have to figure out pricing. The switches are actually kind of expensive. I will get back to you.

Apologies for what may be a stupid question but does anyone know what that part on the left side is used for? The part with the metal panel and plastic circle.

I believe its a cigarette extinguisher so that when you put out the cigarette the ashes go right into the tray.

Hopefully the next picture will be with it installed.

As far as buying one if I get atleast 3 people that want to buy one I could sell it around $20-25 with 3 switches pre installed.

Also if anyone has any requests such as 4 switches or a switch and a cutout for a V1 display just send me a message.

Looks pretty good. Iv got all my switches in the glovebox and would love to have a neat little set up for them. I'm down for a group buy, but requesting a four switch.

Okay the 4 switch will be a little more money than the 3 for obvious reasons. Also I have to make a new template so you would be deleting the cig extinguisher correct?

Custom ashtray switch panel

Finally got everything finished today. Took a little dremel and sanding but it fits great. I actually am not going to use the screw holes as it fits very well with just tension from the tray and can be taken out with a micro flat head. Nothings wired to it yet because I want to do it all at once and Im still waiting on some wires. The ashtray door is still fully functional but when you close the door it switches all the switches to off (I kind of like how it does this) Im sure if you dremelled more of the tray down it would close without turning everything off.
