I know and I've seen a bunch of e46 323iTs.
Merc is talking about an e90 323.

NOVA: That's what they told me and it struck me as kinda cheap too.

(FWIW, the lot is a few hundred yards from Giants Stadium, and about 7 miles from midtown Manhattan.)
There are plenty of parking lots in North Jersey where you can pay $15 for a couple or three hours of do-it-yourself parking.

Thanks.

I'm hoping to find a lower mileage car, and the sports seats are probably my favorite thing about my old car. (unfortunately, my old car had the beige interior.)

Then again, it's also in a different price category.

It's a lovely car and I hope it finds a great home. Maybe even mine.

Happened the day before my turbo kit came in and me and my dad were about to put it on blocks to install. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise IMO. I probably would have easily died with 330whp and no wake up call.

Now the beauty of it is that although I lost something that I really loved, I got over it pretty fast. And the insurance check was substantially more than I could have ever sold it for private party. I don't know if it's because we have a good relationship with our insurance or what, but in my experience they have treated us very well.

Don't worry about the car, it's an object. You're okay and you're about to have an asset that's most likely worth more, and definitely more liquid than a car. Start looking for your new car and get excited! It's a new car and nothing is more exciting than getting a new car! Not even a baby
Not even your own baby? I would have to highly disagree with you. Nothing is more exciting then a happy bouncing baby boy or girl. I get more enjoyment from my kids then I could ever get from any freakin car.

The insurance check should just about cover the sport steering wheel, seats, and an S54

nothing that just buying sport seats and sport wheel cant solve from a salvage yard, seats are probably 300 for both and 150 for a wheel... direct swap, ive done it..... and maintain it properly and it will love you back.

Okay, I'll bite.
How much would it cost in labor and incidental parts to put an M3 engine in an e46 wagon?
No, I don't DIY beyond replacing bulbs and wiper blades.

If you can't DIY you should not attempt an S54 swap. The cost would be insane.
If I had 15K from the insurance company I would buy higher mileage 5speed wagon and swap the engine (estimate about 3K for low mileage 330 engine including some parts you should replace - water pump, VCG ...).
It's fairly easy DIY. I did it without previous experience (build thread in the sig).

Go to Impressive Auto Center in NY. They'll charge you around $7000, perhaps a bit on the higher end. You'll get an S54 and Getrag 6-speed, with all installation labor. Your car is made turn-key ready.

They get to keep your original engine and tranny though.

Well, two weeks from the day my car got totalled, I got some good news.
Taking the advice of Mike (NOVAbimmer) and others and using the links to Wagons for sale that many of you provided, my insurance company agreed to the raw average of the retail comps.
This was a pretty serious bump--more than four thousand dollars--and I have to say that I'm not only pleased but surprised.
So, first, thanks for the support, both moral and practical.
Second, if you have to deal with your insurance company, come armed with facts and figures, and be nice to the people you're dealing with. They didn't hit your car or set the market for a used BMW, and I'm well aware how hard it can be to remember that.
(Also, check your state laws about replacement vehicles. In with the paperwork, they sent me a copy of a NJ state law about my rights if I can't find a similarly equipped car in my area within 30 days. This probably also influenced their decision to pay what I asked for. I honestly didn't read it yet, but I'll report back after I do.)

So if my math is correct you have 17K+ to work with?

If an S54 with trans costs 7K you have 10K to spend on a high mileage wagon with a blown engine.

Schlag. Not that good. Their original offer was $12,000 so it's just over $16K.
Not sure what I'm going to do, although my wife is driving a 12 year old minivan, so getting her a decent car will be a priority. (We need room for 6 so we're thinking a Mazda 5.)

I almost choked on my Monday evening beer!!! Seriously avincent, are you considering other options..? There has to be something out there that can carry 6 and not make you experience withdrawal symptoms!

If it has to be a Mazda 5, consider this..:

Might as well get something big and reliable for the wife (Mazda 5, why not) and get something small and fun for you (MX5?)
