I wonder why manufacturers started naming colours after places. Is it really that yellow in Dakar? That blue in Estoril? That red in Imola?

I remember BMW also had a colour called "Manila", which was some cream-colour. I don't remember the actual city being cream, in fact it was more gray than anything:
