Agreed.

There is a market for them, so obviously some people think otherwise, but I think they detract from the Boxter/Cayman and Carrera.

I think what anyone with enough money and not enough time who walks into a Porsche dealership thinks: I just want a damn car.

There isn't only one audience for Porsche in the world.

I didn't say the 911 fills every market.

They need to exist as much as the base model needs to exist. All the variants make enough money to justify the expense to make and sell them.

It lessens the brand. I'd also be happy if the 1 series, 5 series GT, 6 series GC, X1, X3, X6 and Z4 disappeared.

Damn, that's a lot of cars.

Yes, and the salesman will ask how much you have to spend, will find the most expensive and most profitable model to sell you, and you'll be on your way.

Are you sure of that? You are also aware that the other models make more than their 911 sales, right?

I agree with all except the Z4. I actually like that car, even better when it's an M but at least it has a good market

If you were running a business, why would ever sacrifice the opportunity to make more money?

Exactly. You will not sit around and discuss how often you buy groceries, do you plan on driving in bad weather always, sometimes, or never, if you want the open-air experience but kinda don't, if you want a higher-performance performance model, and so forth. Here's my money, I want this car in this color. Do you honestly believe that the rich-even the working rich-mull over which edition to buy? They would only do so if they are considering practicality, in which case they would simply buy a Prius anyway.

And this mentality is exactly what got Porsche in trouble with VW in the first place.

I'm not surprised if the other make more. I am sure that Porsche will not continue to make a car that they don't consider profitable. Even a car like the 959 was like an $80k loss per sale, but for the amount of publicity they got and additional sales of other models, it offset the loss.

What trouble are you talking about? The one where they got bought out by VW? That has nothing to do with the cars sold by either company.
