We do a lot of things that seem like a good idea at the time. I don't regret it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss it.

They push the wheels out to give the car a more aggressive stance, fix clearance issues, or both.

that's about as much as i knew before
i guess i need a side by side comparison to see the difference
because i wouldn't have known that the car you posted had spacers to push out the wheels
it just looks like a lowered car

It's hard to find a good side by side comparison, but this picture gives you a good idea of how the stock wheels are sunken in without spacers:



And with spacers, the wheels are pushed out and the sunken look is reduced:
