AFAIK, the hard downshift is caused by the trans computer programming. The dealer can reprogram the computer to make the downshift more smooth, but changing the fluid won't fix that problem.

I changed my AT fluid around 15k miles ago and still have the hard downshift.

Most welcome. I'm getting annoyed by the hard downshift myself.

I might actually pay the dealer to do the reprogram soon. No idea what they charge tho.

Weird. I guess there's a BMW TIS that says it's the Trans programming causing the hard downshift. The shop where you took it should have know about it.

You can take it to the dealer and they can reprogram it. I haven't done it yet - I just use Manual mode and downshift myself. That seems to keep it from "clunking".

Once the trans is warm I don't notice it at all.
