Canon EOS-M Mirrorless

Surprised this hasn't come up yet...unless this is a repost.

Thoughts? Anyone planning on picking one up? Might be a good walk around body with the EF adaptor.

I read about that yesterday I had an Olympus mirrorless until someone stole it. They are GREAT for vacations and anywhere else where you wouldn't want to lug around a full DSLR. Mine stayed in my car all the time.

It looks amazing, but $800 plus $200 for an EF adaptor is pretty steep for something like this. Doesn't the Nikon one go for something like $600?

Here is my thing with mirrorless cameras... What is the point of having a small camera body when you still have to have a large lens? For me - If the camera isn't small enough to fit in my pocket... then I might as well carry around an SLR

Stick the 40/2.8 pancake on it and call it a day. My Olympus had a 20mm pancake on it and I loved that little camera. Plus they're nice for shooting video if your DSLR doesn't have the option.

True, but I do have video on my DSLR. My girl has been looking for a good small "SLR quality" camera... What are the other options besides this?

Mirrorless Micro 4/3 Cameras
Olympus PEN line. I had the EP-1 and loved it.
Fuji X10, X100, X1 Pro
Lumix GF1, GX1, GF5

Micro 4/3 forum, http://www.mu-43.com/

Advanced P&S Cameras
Panasonic Lumix LX7
Canon G1X
...I'm sure there's a Nikon variant but I don't know off the top of my head.

Mirrorless as in not an SLR (single lens reflex) camera. There is no mirror between the sensor and the lens like in a conventional camera. Micro 4/3....I can't remember. You can google that one. A 4/3 camera will allow interchangeable lenses and I know it has something to do with the sensor size but I can't remember.

Getting average reviews, I do like the form factor though.

I'm really enjoying my FujiFilm X10: great size, awesome fast lens, and only about $400 now.

I ended up with a Canon G15 and have not picked up my DSLR since.

Of course my 60D is better, but the G15 is a lot smaller (not too small) and has f1.8-f2.8 lens, Digic 5, and works great with my 270exII flash.

At $499, I think it is a fantastic value.

Just an option...
