Question Poll--What brand of oil do you use??

Doing first oil change....Mobil 1 or Redline??
Got an extractor from Griots Garage and will post a review soon.

My Ride: A BMW isn't a "Ride"
Mobile 1

Mobile 1 and RedLine are both really great oils and they are going to do just as good a job as one another. Unless you are actually racing the car or driving like an absolute maniac on the street, go for the Mobile 1- it's easier to find and much less expensive then RedLine. For filters, stick with the factory ones.

That being said, for your transmission and diff, RedLine is the only oil I would ever use.

Also, I wouldn't use those oil sucker things as they tend to leave a lot of the really REALLY dirty oil in the bottom of the pan, especially on semi dry-sump and full dry-sump systems (like the E46 series). Doing an oil change is so kiss simple on BMWs that there really is no reason not to break out a jack and do everything The Factory Way™.

Mobil One 5w-30

It is so easy to change the oil. Just get a set of ramps.

I run AMSOIL Series 2000 0W30 for the motor and run Red Line D4 ATF for the tranny and its 75w90 gear oil for my differential..

I use Mobil one, but I spoke with the dealer and he says Castrol is just as good. Is redline differential fluid recommended in the Manual Tranny? I heard someone tell me that Redline was not recommended in the Northeast because of the cold temperature? Are there any concerns when using Redline?

BMW Castrol Synthetic 5-30 at every 5K.

Would use Mobil1 if I had longer oil change intervals.

    Mobil 1 or AMSOIL.

but recently I've heard that Castrol Syntec is of better quality in the past few years since Mobil has been letting their quality slip.
