Arrow exhaust vanos solenoid CEL P0014 *edit*(added lots of pics and SOLVED!)*

hello everyone

I have a service engine light.

checked code:

(disregard misfires on cylinder 1 and 5... they are old)

my ODB-II pulls p0014 code

recently changed my oil/filter and replaced oil housing gasket and it came on after second start up. (maybe some sludge got in there??)

i have 139k miles on my 2003 330i 5 spd

is this the soleniod? or do i need to rebuild vanos?

car drives great, engine pulls good and smooth.

i do have little rough idle (hiccups a little) and low rpms are a little...weak

pretty sure its original vanos on the car and I have never had this code before.

thanks

Re: exhaust vanos camshaft CEL

Just swap it out and remember not to use anything but an oem sensor. Now that doesn't mean you have to get raped by the dealer find out the company that made the sensor for our cars and go online looking for that same part by same company just without the bmw stamp of you just got robbed approval

Not sure if voltage for sensor or physically not reached.

I checked and cleaned exhaust vanos camshaft connector to no avail.

Re: exhaust vanos camshaft CEL

Cleaning a sensor isn't going to fix it. Yes they're kind of spendy but like most of us, we all will go through that or have already been through it

Re: exhaust vanos camshaft CEL

yeah but you can save some money by looking for the manufacturer that made the part and get it without the "genuine bmw" rape mark. You could save a lot.

Never did the exhaust side, only the intake side so I can't say

Could it be my coil packs on 1 and 5? It does run a little rough during idle

you can try and swap your coil packs around and see if the error follows. might as well check the plugs then. you should hope it isnt the coils. replacing 2 of those cost as much as 4 o2s, or right around there.

Just bought mine from bavauto. Didnt buy the bmw brand, but im sure bavauto picked a suitable aftermarket replacement thats dependable. Will be installing it today. Also comes with new O ring and a new bolt. Just remember to put some blue thread lock on the bolt.

nm bit the bullet and bought the proper socket. it was cheaper on turner by $3 lol

part # 83300493363

don't have time to dik around

ill update progress when i receive the socket.

fingers crossed it will fix the issue and I won't have to buy a new solenoid or rebuild vanos.

update:

so i decided to check my exhaust camshaft sensor *EDIT* (vanos exhaust solenoid)...since i bought the special socket tool might as well have some fun.

fits it perfectly

I didn't feel or see anything from causing it to catch.

what am i looking at here? this center shaft moves in an out...must be sensor actuator?

looks to be original bmw part...also looks a little rusty

part # i read starting from the top

075086

BMW 11.36-1?32 532 edit: correct # is 11 36 1432 532

black plastic piece says " hydraulik ring" 30/02

wanted to post this before i start putting it back together.

once i do that ill see if code goes away.

if not then ill try and get a new sensor (solenoid).

cheers

Re: exhaust vanos camshaft sensor CEL P0014 *edit*(added lots of pics)*

Vanos solenoid came off really easy with a pair if channel lock plumbers style pliers. Hope that socket didn't cost a lot. Check out my threads on my camshaft sensors... The sensors if it turns out to be them then u can find some info in my threads. I swapped out both my intake and exhaust camshaft sensors and my service engine soon light went out and stayed out...!
