Still no Cracker

I emailed Jeff who says his only connection with Gadgetgangster is shipping, and he hasn't had any Car Krackers to ship since last year. For refunds, try Paypal. Good luck!

Yep.. Bought the original for $48.. Couldn't get it to work. Ordered the Kracker 3 for another $107.. Never received a unit or any refund or ever heard back from nmcclana.

I'm working on building one.
I built gerbers from the diptrace file posted on
http://www.gadgetgangster.com/find-a...projectnum=412

The layout posted there does not exactly match the schematic. Also, there is only a pdf of the schematic, no diptrace file.
Also, there is no partlist.

I'm in the process of reverse engineering the partlist.
I'll keep my progress posted here, then will probably fork the project and post everything required to build it (gerbers, BOM, etc).

So far the partlist: (sorry about the formatting)

Very strange... Very unprofessional. I was lucky enough to bust his balls for a refund. It's fair enough that he's an individual, however saying that the CK works on ALL models of E46 w/ nav unit was a big fkoff. I still have my original car kracker + the refund he gave me, but I haven't plugged it into my car. I ended up buying a CD stacker because the amount of times I pulled apart my trunk to experiment made it not worth the bother.

I hope you guys paid with paypal, not sure if you're too late now but I feel for you.

Whenever I think of selling a product I've developed I think of situations like this thread. So I tend to just post my designs and let DIY's rule. (The author has provided his source code, or at least did, for those that one to make things themselves.)

Bad deal though for those that couldn't make it work and didn't get refunds.

Depending on what you guys want to do you can build your own devices. I'm not going to put much in this thread about it as this thread is about the Kracker. But interfacing with the Ibus (or Kbus) is not new.

I've been playing with my own IPOD interface (not just aux interface but could do that easily) using an Arduino. It's on like it's fourth MAJOR revision. It has been a great learning experience. I prefer the Arduino over the Propeller due to the Arduino programming in C instead of a proprietary "Spin" language. But can see the apeal of the multi core structure of the propeller.

Also will throw this out from my experience. I expect most problems are due to variations in the bus voltage and or resistance varying from car to car depending on options installed and corrosion and.... I expect these could be solved with a simple resister change to match it to the car. Or slightly different Ibus to microcontroller circuit.

Thaniel.

PayPal was no help

Even though I bought the Kracker3 through Paypal, their email response was "Sorry, if you didn't buy it through ebay, you're out of luck". Written off as lost cause long ago.

Just to follow up on my comment. Found the best way to interface a microcontroler or pc to the ibus is using a linbus transciever. more info on my blog here http://www.e46canbus.blogspot.com/20...r-arduino.html

Replace the crude transistor and diode circuit with a linbus transciever and it would probably work fine.

I've used the Microchip MCP2025 as well as the ON Semi AMIS-30600 I've also used just a Schottky diode and transistor. For my I-Bus reader project http://ibusmodules.com/Reader.htm I just use a diode and a pull up which worked out great.

I don't doubt it that it worked. I started with a similar curcuit and found that out of the 4 E46's I have ranging in years from 1999-2001 the pull up resistor needed to be changed to a different value on some of the cars (frustrating after the circuit was soldered up based on the testing on one of the cars).

One of the big complaints in this thread is that it didn't work on their car. Made me think of my issues getting a unit to work on all my cars. No need to fool with sizing pullup resistors using a MCP2025 or similar transciever. Inside the wheel buttons BMW placed a simlar transciever to interface with the Ibus. The exact transceiver used is no longer available but the linbus ones have similar specs and work the same.
