Just gauging interest here. Seeing if I can sell the car with the stereo in it... because I REALLY don't want to part it out.
Here's the basics:
2004 330i ZHP
Black Sapphire Metallic
Black Alcantara/Cloth Interior
The car was used for freeway commutes. It has rock chips on the front bumper and hood from lots of freeway driving on crappy California freeways that are constantly under construction. The underside of the front bumer does have curb rash from the previous owner (I am the second owner). There are a couple little door dings here and there, and the thing simply just needs a good polishing and wax.
The interior is about as worn as an 85K mile car should be. Side bolsters in the drivers seat have some pilling on the alcantara, passenger seat has a bit too, but not as much. Back seat is pretty pristine, as it was rarely used. Steering wheel Alcantara is typical, it's matted down and doesn't look all that sexy... but I've heard there are easy fixes for that.
Mechanically, this car is perfect. Runs like a top. I always did oil changes every 3K with synthetic. The shop that did the oil changes and all service is a local BMW specialist, and he only uses the best of everything. It recently got a new clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, new rotors and pads in the front (rears still have lots of life in them), the VANOS system had some repairs done to take care of a weird idle issue that popped up at about 75K miles. I have all the documentation for this work. It also had a shim kit installed in the rear suspension that prohibits side to side shimmying during hard cornering. Basically, this kit tightened up the rear a whole bunch and gave the car a much more controlled feel. This is a "mod" that this shop does on a lot of track cars, and it's well worth it.
The wheels are aftermarket, 18x9 Enkei RPF-1s in black. 255/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires. The tires need replacing within the next 5000 or so miles IMO. Two of the wheels have one inch curb rash marks on them.
Now, the stereo. I am an MECA SQ competitor, and I spent about $12000 on the stereo in this car. It is ALL top of the line equipment, and the install was done by one of the best installers in the country (Simplicity in Sound in San Jose, CA). Here's the gear list:
- Alpine CDA-9887 Deck
- Seas Lotus Reference Tweeters
- Phass DTM-25 Midranges
- Seas Lotus Reference 6.5" Midbasses
- Dynaudio Esotar2 1200 Subwoofer
- Zapco DC Ref. 650.6
- Zapco DC Ref 1100.4
- Kinetik 2400 (HUGE battery)
The tweeters and midranges are installed in custom molded A-Pillars, the midbasses are in custom built kick panel enclosures. The kick panels were VERY hard to build because I wanted them completely out of the way since the car is a manual and I have size 15 feet. I never even notice they're there! The subwoofer is in a MASSIVE sealed fiberglass enclosure in the trunk. With the beauty panels installed in the trunk, you'd never know there was anything there, and you lose ZERO trunk space. It's also incredibly lightweight. After the spare, jack, and other hardware were removed, and the stereo was put in, I only gained about 80 pounds of weight.
Tweeters get 100 watts each, midranges get 150 watts each, midbasses get 180 watts each. Subwoofer is getting 500 watts. This entire system is actively crossed over, and the DSP software in the Zapco amps provide full 31-band eq, time alignment, and full crossover flexibility to each individual driver. You control the processing via a laptop hooked up to a USB cable that is hidden in the glove box. I will include a little Asus EeePC laptop with the Zapco DSP software installed.
This system is AMAZING. With proper tuning, this is an 85-90 point MECA car, which puts it in the top 20 in the country, easily. Midbass is punchy, sub-bass is transparent and completely unlocalized, and the midrange and top end is so detailed it actually almost pisses you off. You can tell this thing was built with nothing but the best gear. The front stage alone has about $2500 worth of drivers in it. The subwoofer was $1300 new. The Zapco amps each cost over $1000 new. Then there is about $1000 worth of SecondSkin sound deadening in the doors, floor, and trunk. Then you factor in the install time. Without sponsorship, recreating this stereo would cost an IMMENSE amount of money.
In total, I'd guess this system has maybe 40 hours of play time. So, it's barely broken in.
A few issues - the A-pillars have upholstery on them that has faded, they could use a re-wrapping. Also, the lower B-pillar plastic cover on the driver's side decided to just fall off. A replacement will be needed (BavAuto said it's a $50 part). Also, due to the fact that the A-pillars have been heavily customized, the airbags in them have been de-activated and the dash throws an airbag warning light. If you would like to re-activate them, I'd recommend getting new factory a-pillar covers, and moving the tweeters in to the factory sail panel locations. Good news there is, you could then sell the Phass DTM-25 midranges and make back all the money you spent to move the tweeters and get new pillar covers and then some.
The car has 35% tint all around, but it has faded. It doesn't even look tinted at this point. It was crappy tint, but at least it didn't bubble or turn purple!
Also, the front fogs are no yellow fogs, and there are black kidney grills to complete the Darth Vader look.
Ok, now some pics. I can take any other pics anybody would like, just let me know.
Asking price: $14,000 obo. Car is located in Grass Valley, CA (about 50 miles NE of Sacramento). It is garaged. Selling it because I have too many vehicles and I want to move on to another SQ Competition build.
PM me or email email@example.com for more information. No offer will go un-heeded... I will respectfully decline lowballs though!
Thanks for looking!
