318ci from Romania

Hi, my names is Tudor. For a long time i have been reading this forum and today i decided to show off my coupe. It's an 02 e46 coupe (JZ44593), today last year i bought it. During the past year the car underwent the following mods, all of them had been done by myself of my dad:
-new oem door seals
-retrofit automatic climate control
- oem bmw sat nav
-Harman Kardon sound system
- M3 imola red interior (fully electric and heated)
-330ci front brakes
-H&r 35-20 springs
-Bilstein b4 mtech shocks
-got the front bumper and hood painted
-Replaced all the plastic clips in the interior
-Oem power folding mirrors (i am looking for m3 ones)
-routed all the cables through factory specs.
-OZ Allegeritta 17inch rims.
-M3 central switch panel.
-Brand new central console
-New ebrake lever.

The plans for the car during the winter are as follows:
-M54B25 engine
-6 speed manual gearbox
-refurbished rear axle (new bushings, screws, bearings, disc and calipers).

Regarding the 4cyl to 6 cyl conversion i would be more that happy for any info the users from this forum can provide.

Nice to see a fully loaded car like yours and that you're going for OEM+ status.

One suggestion though is to change your turn signal indicators to clear corners.

I think amber corners and tails would look great on that car. Clear is common in Europe.

Tudor, tine-o tot asa!

i plan on getting led tail lights so i might as well go for amber. I also plan on getting a M54B25 engine.

If you're going through all the trouble of swapping might as well get the 3.0, if you can avoid taxes.

if you are going to go through the trouble of swapping the engine, find a 3.0. More power, and the engines are nearly identical. I have the 2.5 and while it's just fine for a daily driver I'm always itching for a little bit more power. Also the 2.5 is pretty much maxed out in terms of power from the factory, you won't be able to do much to it. I know taxes might be a factor for you tho, but just take that into consideration. Car looks great btw. Also if you care about your paint don't ever use automatic car washes like the one in the picture, you'll end up with swirls everywhere especially on black paint.

The reason behind me choosing the b25 are as follows:
1-taxes: 250 usd dollars instead of 560 usd (for the b30)
2-homologation: i cannot homologate an engine that has more than 40% horsepower than my valvetronic engine....
3-I want the swap to be legal so i don't have any problems when traveling around Europe.
4-In Romania petrol is expensive as f**k. 1 litre of petrol (99octane) is 5.6lei/litre or 1.39 usd/litre.
5-Since i an paying for all of the above the B25 engine is an engine that i can afford.
6- Bear in mind that i live in Europe were a 1.0 turbo engine is a very popular engine. In Romania the engine people buy is 2.0d (low taxes and great MPG).

Getting the car washed at an automatic car wash, was the dumbest thing i did in a long time... I would like to get it resprayed (ruby black) after i am done with the swap.
I always wanted an e46 coupe pre facelift (i think it look better than the facelift). All the retrofits i did were basically kits than i bought from people parting out an e46.

Fair points, those taxes are insane. A 6 speed with the appropriate differential should make a big difference at higher speeds. I always feel like the 2.5 would have benefited a lot from a 6 speed transmission. These engines are very reliable, do all the preventive maintenance when you swap it and you should have a pretty awesome all around coupe. If the paint isn't in too bad of a condition the defects such as swirls and scratches can be most likely polished out.

Me being a 22year old student it's a big rip off. None the less, i like my coupe and the B25 will do it's job just fine. I'm not a boy racer but i would like more power.
Regarding the 6MT is on the to do list. My only question is: can i use the 6MT gearbox from the B30 engine with the 2.93 rear diff? The gearbox will fit, no questions about it, but gearing of the diff will it be ok?

Slip the engine block and stamp numbers as on b25 , I dont think that anyone could identify that its not a b25 block.

I will decide what to do exactly when i have the money needed for the swap. It all depends if i can find a good working engine. I don't want to rush things. But your ideea is brilliant.

in the mean time i am getting the m3 cluster. I bought a SMG cluster from uk, and i an planning on getting rid of the smg display and just have the normal background. later i found a cluster background in KPH, so naturally i bought the cluster background on the spot. Brand new Bosch cluster background. I will do al the coding from MPH to KPH and keep you updated. PS: yesterday i went to my home town ( two hour drive from Cluj Napoca) really foggy. I never saw my car this dirty ever.

That will be a great mod, but how are you planning on adjusting the scale? I mean the stock 18ci cluster ranges to 240 km/h and 7000 rpm...

The cluster is plug and play. The revs and kph will be accurate, because all e46 cluster use the same parameters (1km/h=4300 electric impulses). So by putting the m3 cluster, the only thing that will not work is the oil temperature. I heard a rumor, that the oil temperature needle will work on an M54 engine.
