How many of your cars burn oil? I'm interested because my dad's e39 528i burns oil and the question came up to him if mine did and when i said no he was surprised. keep in mind that i have 75k and he has 112k. and so it makes more sense, my parents are divorced so thats why this question came up randomly and he didnt know a lot about my car am i just a lucky car owner or will burning oil come soon

I gotta be honest, I dont think that many people burn oil on this site.

In most cases I would be willing to bet that "I burn oil" translates to "I have a slow oil leak somewhere that I don't know about."

I have 2 different seals that need replaceing. My car takes 1/2 a liter maybe every 3 months. I never see oil on the ground, nothing in my engine bay looks oily, if I didn't know better I might say I burn oil.

If they didn't, they wouldn't have added an oil level sensor. The oil level sensor was only added after the 15k drain interval increase. They must have anticipated some oil level drop in that span.

My 04 330 uses oil, my old 04 ZHP used oil and my buddy's 325 wagon uses oil as well? I just figured they use oil and moved on...

'04 325i consumed no oil at 85k mi, no leaks either (VCG done proactively at 60k, no leaks anywhere).. When I was looking for E30s I came across an automatic 3255ix with over 250k on the clock and the owner was genuinely surprised that it consumed no oil at all...

I start using a bit of oil about halfway through my oil change cycle..

After 7500 of the 15K = 1/2 quart every 2K.

1 quart every 750 miles is within spec for our cars.

Yeah, but spec is whack.

Original owner with proper break-in with about 1/5 quart down every 7500 miles. Never had a vcg or ofhg or oil pan leak in 94K miles. Replaced the vcg at 88K miles when I did my vanos seals and rattle. Old vcg came out looking like brand new.

Mine will always burn about 1 quart between oil changes. This has never varied from the moment I bought my car at 40k to now at 150k.

Mine uses(leaks or burns) a lot. Almost a quart every 700 to 1000 miles.
But I am doing CCV, OFHG soon. Will do VCG again. I am sure its CCV but I am doing OFHG as well since I will already be down there.

My rear main seal is leaking like a mofo at 160k miles, but my clutch is still alive and well. I refuse to dig into this DIY until the clutch dies, I'll do it then. For now, my 04 ZHP uses/leaks about 1qt every 2k miles. Was much worse before my VCG replacement.
