i had my pioneer avic-90dvd navi installed yesterday along w/ my avh-p7480dvd. however, it's not letting me choose anything other than a map view when i try to enter an address for directions. they all come up grey and only map search or map view is highlighted in white that i can choose. can anyone w/ this navi please help me out here. i'm doing what was said in the manual and instruction dvd, but it's not letting me select certain options. TIA

I have the same exact navi system and mine works fine. What I do is go to the menu, select new destination, address search and it works fine.

If you want you can give me a call and we can try it togheter.

damn, i was afraid of that. ok, here's the situation. the GPS locates me than loses me as i'm driving and says unable to calculate route. but it won't let me select anything other than map search. anyone have a clue as to what may be wrong? any help is greatly appreciated.

crispvx: thanks for sharing your experience. i may take u up on that offer bro. if u can just pm or e-mail me a number where i can reach u, that'll be great. i'll give it one last shot before i bring it back to the installer.

If you are losing GPS signal I would take it back to the installer. My antenna is installed on the rear deck and I never loose reception. I will pm you my number.

just alittle update on what's going on w/ my navi. audio shop had it all day yesterday and they think that it may be a defective wire that connects the navi unit to the brain of the system. when u switch over to navi or use the dvd player in the navi, the screen gets alot of what looks like static and some distortion. but when i put a dvd in the unit up front, it looks beautiful. but i have another concern also. they remounted my antenna in the back deck, but it looks like the navi is loosing me or freezing up. if it was a defective wire, would that cause this to happen? sound advice is waiting for pioneer to get back to them so they can take care of this for me.

just wanna give u guys the heads up on this place sound advice. first of all, i got the navi working. it turned out to be an install problem (lack of knowledge ). brought it to a pioneer service center and they were able to take care of it for me. second, i thought they had done a nice job on the install, but in truth, they didn't at all. i liked the way the deck looked up front, but underneath it all, there was alot of sloppy and unprofessional work that they were able to hide. i heard a rattling in the trunk and when i pulled up the carpet, i noticed that the tray on the side of the trunk where they mounted the navi, was missing all the screws to hold it in place. also there were some broken plastic plugs and fasteners that they tried hiding as well by glueing them on or just not putting them back. bottomline, very sloppy, unprofessional, inexperienced and unknowledged installations. i highly recommend anyone in the NY area NOT going there. they are located in Merrick on Long Island. now i have to go to bmw and replace what they've broken or not put back

I hope you paid them with a credit card. If so, call up your card company and file a complaint.

What the hell did they do wrong?

Wassup man.. just had the same thing installed..
My shop installed the GPS sensor somewhere inside the dash and it works great.. they had trouble with the install too.. something was causing the screen to jitter like crazy, but they fixed it somehow.. my TV reception seems to be worse now, but its not like i use it or anything

The gps sensor is just a screw located on the bottom of the unit. Depending which way the unit is facing, the screw will need to be inserted into the proper location.

Not sure what you mean by "installed gps sensor in the dash"

i think he means the gps antenna.

anyways, when i use the dvd player/navi player the picture comes in great when the car is off. when it is on, i get some lines across the screen. but when i use the indash dvd player, it always looks great.
