Cheap, Reliable, Good MPG Car when the E46 breaks down
Just wondering whats out there.
Basically we all know Corollas and Civics are the most reliable and dependable however because of their reliability they are unbelievably overpriced. I've seen a Civic with 30K gets sold for like 2K less than MSRP for a new Civic. I've narrow my list to an early 2000s Ford Focus, or early 2000s Pontiac Sunfire/Chevy Caliver. They are all cheap to buy, parts are cheap to get, they are all easy to work on. Insurance will be cheap. It won't look pimp so it won't get keyed. They all are VERY easy to find in manual also. |

I'd go with the Ford Focus, only cause Ford (as a company) still exists. Pontiac, as a brand, has been discontinued. Plus, IMO, the Focus looks better. Something about hatchbacks

I will just throw out there ... a WELL MAINTAINED VW TDI. Best car you can get for the money and gets double the MPG those other two will get.

I'm currently doing the same. Buying a beater car so I can preserve my clean M3. Looking at early 2000s camrys, accords, civics, and of course the focus.

Just consider this -
The Focus was brought over from Ford Europe and was universally praised. The Cavalier/Sunfire was from the darkest days of GM and was designed by people who were literally paid to design whatever would get to market quickly.

jetta, golf.........................i'd find a granny/pa kept honda or corolla tho, they come along, just gota wait, people die or get put in homes every day, and they have low miles typically, i'd set the price point at 6k

European Focus was not the same as US Focus until 2010. US Focus was a POS before 2010
