considering a move to USA

Earthquakes? I always hear my buddies from out of state talk about earthquakes. You know what an earthquake feels like? About once a year, you will probably be sitting down watching TV and you'll feel some light shaking that last 5 seconds. Then you spend the rest of the day asking people if they felt it. Half won't have a clue to what you're talking about. That's about it.

There are those rare occasions when actual damage or casualties occur, but they are far in between. When I think of the constant flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes everywhere else, I'm not worried about earthquakes.

However, it you want to talk about fires, that's another story.

Haha now tht is vary true and if u get a good one @ night u feel like someone is waching u, but earthqakes don't happen as offten as most ppl outside cali think.

when I first moved here almost 15 years ago I was so freaked out about them....and when I experienced my first one I was freaked for all of about a minute.

I have felt like three in the last month in OC ... Hell 2 of those happened at work during conference calls and the reactions were "earthquake...., ok moving along, so...."

Grew up in Houston. I fear the destruction of hurricanes, tornadoes and fires much more .

So did OP have you decided yet? A couple of months later....??

sorry for the late reply, been busy as sin the last couple of weeks with work and stuff.

we did come back and enjoyed touring round places.

so far we are stuck on California, yes it isnt the cheapest in the land, it probably isnt the "best" in many opinions but we have liked it.

we are currently gpoing through looking at all of the legal implications of the move and how potentially we could support ourselves financially (besides through sale of assets)

we are searchin numerous websites to see what property is on offer out there for us and plan to visit a few more times as and when anything comes up.

as for a particular area we want to be close to the beach, so looking along the coasts first.

If you haven't already, try Redfin and Realtor.com.

I'll take the threat of an earthquake over the threat of a hurricane any day of the week. With a hurricane threat you have to consider boarding up your windows, packing, and getting the hell outta there usually needlessly. An earthquake hits without warning, is over in seconds and rarely, very rarely results in damage.

Americans are not more polite than anyone else. Them asking all the time "how are you" and "have a nice day" when they really dont give a sh!t, got on my nerves, i just think its fake. Everytime i was in my buildings elevator someone would start small talking about something that would'nt interest anyone anyway.

That's great news! There are lots of beautiful coastal cities in California. The northern part is more small town style then you have the bay area. The south is more hip. Keep us updated!
