Bimmerworld e46 engine mounts
Just got the bimmerworld engine mounts put in and I am very pleased. The car is a bit "buzzy" at idle and it gets worse if it drops below 900 rpm or so. Much too my surprise the best part is when you hit power @ 4k and above. It's a subtle sensation but if I could describe it, it would be "clearer". I dunno, the car feels much more crisp and responsive. Much more "///M"... Lol

Thank you for the post, further reinforcement that these mounts are indeed one of the best choices!

sooooooo what exactly do these do? stiffen the mounting point, yes, but what do they improve?

There's not much to them. Basically they increase NVH. Improve the "feel" of the car and probably allow a fraction of a percent more power to go to the rear wheels by reducing drivetrain loss. In a track or motorsport situation, they reduce the amount of movement the engine does when you angrily sling it around the track. If you do these mounts coupled with the stiffer transmission mounts you will notice crisper more direct shifts, and are less likely to do a "money-shift" from 5th to 2nd instead of 5th to 4th. It's pretty much all nonsense on the street but on the track you will appreciate it more. If you have ever driven a E46 330i and an E46 M3 back to back you notice a lot of little differences other than the obvious engine/power thing. This is like having a M3+, if that makes sense.

I had these in for a short time, and it was too much in stop and go traffic with the AC on, crazy vibrations. However, if I could have set my rpm idle to 1,000 it would be fine. I'm back on OEM M3 mounts now, much better for DD IMO

My car just HATES going less than 25mph, really, really hates it. The engine mounts, for me, are much less annoying than many other things that came stock on this car, so I just shrugged it off. |

The vibration associated with the BW mounts does get better as the mounts seem to "break in" over the first month or two. Of course, I also run a 900 rpm idle speed and stock dual mass flywheel. For the brief period of time that I ran poly motor mounts, I thought the vibrations were horrible even though I had experienced the exact same mounts in an e36 M3 and found them tolerable. I later found out that my stock harmonic damper was shot....

Yep, sounds similar to a mild exhaust upgrade.

if you currently run OEM non-M MM you can upgrade to the OEM M3 MM. probably a little more like OEM non-M than BW, and definitely an upgrade

the vibrations in the car, or it is an audible difference?
this makes sense, but in concern for my own build... what wakes the dead? what exhaust is after your headers?
