I would say 10 minutes... There was loaded traffic whenever the trafffic stopes I'd turn the car off.

Don't think he hates you...I think that an e46 is too much car for a new driver. Mostly because a teenage kid is going to push the limits of their first car. I know I did...that poor Mazda.

A tow truck or a visual inspection were the last things on your mind?

So you need a new hood, radiator support, AC condenser, radiator and headlights.

Start by replacing the radiator and then run the engine and see if you've blown the HG, if it's blown i'd say try to get it totaled.

If the car is not repairable meaning the engine is ****ed up then i don't know what I'm gonna do. Probably won't get a car till I'm out of school. Probably have to quit my job...

What happens if a car is or gets totalled? What does insurance do?

They pay the owner what they feel is the full value for the car, and then take the remains and sell it for whatever they can get.

Heh and I ordered a window regulator the day before and was supposed to take it to the shop today to fix the window... Guess there's more fixing than that:/

You drove it ten minutes while the temp needle was in the red? Is say your engine is toast.

If you guys are going to back his thread because your jealous that a high school kid drives the same car you do. Get over yourselves. OP glad to hear youre ok. Next time youre in accident you should really think it through though. An accident can happen to anybody.

Yes, it must be our collective jealousy.

Yup.

If the temp is ever NEAR the red, pull over, put hazards on, call the tow truck.
A new hood and cooling system overhaul may have just turned into a car not worth fixing.

There's a % of the value that has to be lost before insurance won't fix the car.

You need bumper, hood, grills, and who knows what in the engine. Maybe AC condenser and radiator, fan...and some other stuff right there.

10 mins. while in the red isn't good. The turning it off really wouldn't have helped that much...maybe a little.

But, as a result of the accident, a $2500 head gasket/head fix might still fit in with insurance company's policy...you'll find out soon enough.

Don't trail cars by distance...trail by time. 3 secs. in ordinary traffic, 6 secs. in rain, and 9 secs. in snow and ice. Assume people are morons everywhere and just keep clear of their potential stupidity...which potential seems great!

My Ride: 2003 325xi Touring
Don't feel too bad. Im also a senior in highschool. A couple months ago I let a "friend" drive my 325xi Touring (my pride and joy, MY BABY!) and he decided to get possed by satan and try Tokyo Drift ****. He put the car right over a curb sideways going 30. he went CRAZY and I told him to power off but he wouldnt :'( The wheels were tucked under, CV axels shattered, and the body bent in where the trailing arm goes in. Luckily I have a good job and I had 1500 in savings bonds soo I used them to buy parts and get the frame pulled out. my dad and I put it back together piece by piece and now shes better than she was and it drives like smex Expensive lesson learned. I wasnt at the wheel but I handed over the keys. Haha, oh and the kid didnt pay me a cent -_-

I hated myself for a while after that but Im over it now. Hopefully I can keep my E46 forever. More and more will be headed to the scrapyard eventually, wich means more parts for us fanatics
