Upgrade questions

I want to upgrade my sound system and I have a few questions.

Right now I have everything stock and very basic. Cassette, no HK, no HIFI(I've seen this as an option somewhere). I have a touring from '99.

I've ordered a oem HU. A CD version from 09-2003. And an aux cable.

Next step is a speaker upgrade and/or an extra amp.

- would just a tweeter and mid-low range upgrade make a big difference?
- do I need to buy these speakers in an matched set? Or could I just find the right ohms and buy them separately?
- do these have a filter in between?
- would I need an extra amp if I want some decent volume? And play electronic music with loud kicks?

Any advice much appreciated! And hello! First post. .
My name is Gilles. I live in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I drive a 320i e46 and its dark blue (sorry forgot the real name) with tan leather interior. 3rd BMW. Drove two E30's before this one.

Speakers will give you biggest bang for the euro. No, the new speakers don't have to be matched or from the same manufacturer. I'm running Diamond Audio Tech 6.25" woofers in the doors. The mids are made by Vifa and the tweets are made by SEAS. The original speakers have an impedance of 3 ohms. Just make sure the new speakers are 4 ohms. The amplifier won't notice the difference as a speaker's impedance changes as the audio signal's frequency changes.
