AVIN with 9" screen

Anyone have pictures of this installed? No installed pics yet on the listing. Seems like it would looks out of place with the interior.

This is a strange unit to me....it even says on the Avin page you linked 'This is not the Avant 3'.
So is this a new unit? Is it an old unit that has been modified for the E46 chassis?

It has some nice features like ID3 tags over bluetooth, ability to run Android Auto seems to be being pushed.... but it is also only running Android 4.2.2 which is pretty dated now, and it only has 1Gb of ram.
And some of the pics of the UI are really really, well...ugly to be honest. The radio stations screens look really bad.

Kind of a mixed bag. On the one hand a 9" screen is unique. On the other hand kind of outdated hardware and operating system, and certainly doesnt look like it will look as good in the dash as the older Avin avant radio.

I just emailed avin support about installed pics. They responded saying they don't have installed Pics yet but will have some soon.

Looks very interesting. Wonder if this could signal the coming end of the AVIN line, or if AVIN was at all involved in the development of this product.

I think it's potential could be limited by the lack of Apple Car Play, and it does look a lot like an Android tablet with a special car mount, but ultimately it is nice to see R&D dollars still being put towards an E46-specific product.

Looking forward to seeing more photos.

It's ugly and it does not go with the look of the car.
There is also a model of this style at Erisin, but it costs less and works with Android 5.1.1.

I also just stumbled across this running 5.1.1.

It looks interesting. I'm seriously considering to purchase it.

Has anyone yet bought it?

There is a very similar 8.8" version with touch panel at the base rather than on the side, as on this unit.

I found this video of the system in a Facebook page

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?sto...56988451104336

It looks pretty chunky but I rather like it.

I'm not sure of the sound quality. Maybe it need to be booked up to a DSP like a Helix to bring it to life?

Check Ebay first...you can find them on there much cheaper than going through Avin.

Thanks for the post. You are right, it does look a bid out of proportion. I could get use to that, what i would really miss is the tactile control of the nob... Being able to blindly reach and rotate a nob while busy driving is handy. I know we have the steering wheel controls, but sometimes the left had is busy too

Looks pretty cool for the price.
Might just have to try it out.

Just wish there were some comparisons between this and the other unit.

Well. I pulled the trigger and bought one of these off of eBay. And Wow I got this in from Hong Kong in 4 days!!!

So far. I've only had it for a few hours. It seems to be pretty nice. The fit is a little off. But im sure once I'm home and mess with it a bit it'll be fine.

Is this thing really android 4.2.2?
There are options on eBay that are 5.1 and even some at 6.0, same design.

Search for " BMW e46 android 9" "

I've had mine for a few weeks now, running 5.1.1 for well under $300. No issues yet except for no auto dimming screen, though the dimmer button is on the top menu and easy enough to access.
Fitment is near perfect, although I did have to trim two tiny bits of dash from the sides of the radio.

If I had to nitpick I would say seeing the unfinished bit behind the screen from through the front windshield is the only part I don't like, but that's a stretch.

How about some photos of it/vid's of the unit being used?
