Do you know if this system would work with a DSP amp? I Don't have a coax-connection on my CD-changer.

I'm a software engineer and as a hobby I like to play around with electronics. I wouldn't mind to do some hacking on it before it works.

thanks!

I'm not sure. If your cd-changer sends out analogue audio then it's likely to work.

okay, I'll check it and will share the results.

If this won't work, I'll might want to try to use tape, as webdj suggested.

PiBUS 2

Hi Guys,

The original board for this was a little too complicated so I've decide to revise it.
The new version works much the same way, but has a lot less parts to solder, no ribbon cable (plugs ontop of the Pi) and allows you to plug the BMW 6-pin audio straight in.

I'm thinking of putting a DIY-solder kit together, like the image below and just trying to gauge the level of interest. It would come complete with all components (except the Pi itself) and a pre-programmed micro-controller, so it's dead easy to put together.

This is not a big money making scheme, so it'd cost just the price of the parts plus a few bucks to keep me interested

Who'd buy one and how much would you expect to pay?

DIY E46 Media Centre: MP3, videos, Digital Radio, Digital TV?

I like your innovative idea as a whole however it has one drawback. Since you're targeting those who wish not to change the factory look, the crowd you're left with are people who already have a navi unit or got one for dirt cheap since a used one costs so much it can't be justified. The solution for the rest is to go with an aftermarket touchscreen and even better has the capability to allow the mirroring capabilities of your phone. Like my pioneer app radio 2 it gives full access to everything on my galaxy s3 or iPhone 4. It's like an extension and enlarged version of my phone in front of me. I paid $230 for it but it was a previously opened item at best buy

Great work on this so far.... I'm interested too.

What are the pre-reqs to make this work? OE TV module? As Newb suggested, maybe the ability to output to a generic touch screen would be use too.

Around $60 might be do-able. Still need to test that the new design works and then I can add up the cost. If you consider a Resler board costs 29.90 Euro and basically does nothing, I guess it's not bad.

Yeah, just the TV module and cables for CD-Changer - most cars should have them in the boot I think.

I'm ok for you to use my M as a guinea pig I'm next door to you in Blackburn. $60 region is quite fine IMO as adding the pi will still keep it under $100.

Av in is picture and mono sound, using reverse camera input gives you video, cd in gives you stereo sound

Ops board has a built in switch for this. It is very well thought out and executed imo

For an M3 owner, $100 is just pocket change isn't it?
