Hello everyone, first post, have questions

Let me start by saying hello to everyone and how happy I am there is an e46 community. Alright, last Tuesday I purchased my first e46, a 2001 330ci 5 speed. The car is beautiful, but has an issue I need to take care of. The trunk has no lock in place (empty hole) and none of releases work, including my key. I can get into the trunk through the back seat, but the emergency release is missing. I'm assuming the wiring harness for the trunk is disconnected, because the reverse lights don't work and the dash shows the trunk being open. So, how do I get the trunk open and what is the best method to resolve this issue. Thanks everybody, take care.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy your new E46.

First, read this:

Then, get to know Dmax.

As far as fixing your lock, either do a search, or create a new post entitled:

"Help with trunk lock" or something similar, and you will get lots of help.

Thanks, unfortunately that link is dead. I'll change the title of the thread.

Also search the threads where guys locked their keys in the trunk. Although you didn't, you'll find some posts describing how to pull the level/rod on the lock to manually open up the trunk.

When you get the trunk open, leave it open (hope you have garage).

Your issue is probably that you have a number of broken wires in the loom hiding inside the elephant trunk going from body to trunk lid.

It could just be fuses, I suppose, so check those, but the odds are it's a broken wire.

Search my 'elephant trunk' thread...learn to solder...done! That or a new $600 wiring loom.

(Thanks for singling me out, IxNay! lol OP, there are many here you should get to know, but you'll meet them all eventually!)
