Reset oil service

Hi, Anyone know how to reset the oil sevice after an oil change. I have a 04 325i. I've tried holding the trip reset down, with the key in the 2nd position, mine goes to ---test--- . Let off of it, push it again. It appears to test the cluster, all the lights on the cluster will come on and the mph and rpm will max out and return to normal. Is there a DIY on this? Thanks

awesome. I love it when I'm on this forum, and I'm looking for something else, but I stumble upon another problem I've had.

I have an E46 M3, just got an oil change, but it says service oil soon -500 miles over. Looked in the manual and it syas you have to go to the BMW dealership to reset it. Is there no other way? What is the standard setting also? I want to set mine to tell me in 5,000 miles.

Hold the left button on you cluster while continuing to hold button, turn the key to the first position (very important) if you go into the second position it will not work... Keep holding till it says reset, let go and press and hold again till reset starts to flash, when reset starts to flash, let go and press it once more and there you go!!!!!!

Thanks! Is there a way to change the interval? What mileage does the reset put it back to?

Once you get so far past the oil service time in the negative it must be reset with software. I believe it resets to 15000 miles.
A Pa soft 1.40 scan tool can do this reset for you.
That same scanner can do much more for your car and also change the amount of miles it counts down from-except for the M3. For some reason the M3 module can be reset, but the count down milage can not be modified.
Every Bmw diy'r should have this tool.

Seems like my left button might not be working. It does not "click in" and seems like it just pushes the instrument cluster in, is it broken? So when i tried doing this it didnt work, so I tried it with the right button it didnt work either.

Re: Reset oil service

I am having the same problem with my 330xi. Holding the left to button does not cause the instrument cluster to illuminate.

Process never worked for me either, and I swear I followed the instructions to the letter. They're not difficult to follow, these instructions, but I think somehow my instrument cluster is not the same as everyone else's. It just does not work. Which is why I use the laptop.
