FINALLY...ST Coilover Install... PICTURES
Well like the title says I finished with the install earlier today... Overall not to bad at all, except for the damn RTABs...maybe im just an idiot but it took me a good 10 mins just to figure out how to get the damn tool to work :lolhit: I really enjoyed doing the install myself... Not only do I have the extra money in my pocket, but also self satisfaction :thumbsup2:
Anyways I rather be slow and take my time, making sure everything is done right than rush through and not have things be right... I still have to make minor adjustments with ride height, but everything seems A O K :thumbsup2: Now for the pictures ![]() (there are plenty of DIYs... so no need to comment each picture... but if you have any ?s feel free to PM me :thumbsup2 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (had to remove RSMs after picture... forgot to lube it up :shifty ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Drumroll...:drums: . . . . . . . . (10 minutes after she was off the jack stands)![]() ![]() ![]() My Favorite ![]() ![]() My one question I do have... Im guessing I am going to have to remove the Driverside Front Im thinking I either didnt torque this side down enough or something Anyways the short drive I went on after I was finished I could hear a small rattle up front so I am guessing this is the plaintiff... ![]() Any ways to torque without removing everything? I would also like to give a thanks to Prit :thumbsup2:

the ride is probably very nice right now since the suspension is new, but can you chime in a few months later to give a final review?

How's the ride? Looks like you could space the wheels out.

Congrats on the install!
It looks like you have air; you can just impact the strut hat nut.

I just adjusted everything last night and I am currently sitting at 13.25" all around... not sure if thats where I exactly want it, but works for now. I actually have 15mm spacers up front and 12mm in the rear shown on the pictures ![]() I tried using the impact on the strut hat nut and the damn thing just spins... any suggestions?

If you're trying to tighten that nut on the top, it looks like you have to stick an allen wrench in the top opening and use a crescent wrench or open ended wrench to tighten it. The allen key will keep it from spinning.

Yeah... about that... easier said that done finding a wrench that not only fits in the opening, but also secures the bolt and allowing the use of an allen key

You're probably going to have to remove the suspension in order to access that and torque it down correctly unfortunately. Otherwise you could try getting some type of vice or wrench with some form of a soft grip and squeeze the piston/shaft without damaging it while using an impact gun.

My Ride: is parked hard.

Shouldn't having the wheels on the ground keep it from spinning and you can just torque it? At least that's how it is on my TT. I never did coils on my M3...

I might actually just try taking it up to a shop and seeing if they can hit it with an impact, I think mine is just to weak...

Yeah I just got something very similar to what you have that worked. BTW what kind of socket is that? I wanted to purchase a "through rachet" set where the allen wrench could be used also, but it only went up to 3/4" in size when I needed the 7/8"

For the rear springs, did you reuse the top oem spring pad for the bottom?

if you're using a pneumatic gun. wait till the compressor fills up completely then constantly "blip" the gun untill it stops spinning. The problem is that the strut shaft spins. so you have to keep blipping the gun to get them to seat.

I know it's an old tread but if anyone has pics of these coils maxed out I would really appreciate it.
