The seats aren't the best to be honest, I found the SE seats in my old 330 coupe were better for comfort. You do get used to them after a while.

Adjustable lumber M seats are comfortable.

My first e46 M3 didn't have adjustable lumber and I was uncomfortable after a half hour in the car. The current one does and I've ridden in it for 20 hours non stop (literally) and got out without discomfort.

So... depends how you optioned the car.
Ian,

I have to say that the lighting from your ///M is awesome! They look like they belong on an aircraft

Going back on topic....I had regular ///M sport seats and ended up swapping them out for ones with lumbar support. Makes a world of difference!

Opposite for me. I find my M3 seats to be more comfortable than my 330ci.

All depends on the size of the driver too. If you are fat w/ a giant ass, don't blame the car for you being uncomfortable . Also, if you are tall, probably not the car for you either head room wise.

Non-M sports seats are so comfy. But the seats in my girlfriends e92 335 are horrible. Always hurts my back. My seats in the M3 fall in the middle of those two.

No problem, from here on out I will qualify every post with a disclaimer that the contents are solely my opinion and should not be taken as fact. I apologize for stating my strongly held opinion in a thread where it can be inferred every response on seat comfort will invariably be subjective.

That said, to further qualify my previous opinion my seats are non-lumbar leather and I am 6'3", though I do not have problems with head room.

I'm glad that we've come to an agreement.

I have the fully adjustable leather seats in my E46 M3 and many have complemented them. My wife can sleep easily on long trips even.

I've done a few 1000+ mile road trips in my recaros. I like them, but I spent a lot of time getting the right size. They are completely unadjustable and not particularly padded, hard to get in and out of, but at least with a recaro they are very ergonomic.

It would NOT to be anything like a 7 series...

Seems like a general consensus is that you need lumbar and bolster for optimum comfort. It's funny how some features that seem like they should be standard equipment are still options on a 70K car. My 1990 735i had adjustable lumbar but my 2003 M3 doesn't. I do understand that they are two totally different cars with different purposes. One is for luxury and the other for speed, but there should be some adoptions of features which become standard equipment after a while (like air conditioning etc). However BMW seems slow to transfer options to standard equipment. I guess it's kinda like navigation which is still not standard equipment even on new M3s.

Base msrp was $46,000 when it came out. Not a $70,000 car at all.

Got mine, nearly fully optioned, for $53,000 in 2005.

Agreed. Price was much different back then. All of my M3's have had power lumbar/bolsters. Even my current E9X with manual seats has power lumbar/bolsters.

...and if you want to talk about price gouging per option, one only needs to mention Porsche.

My bad. I was using a guesstimate but should have mentioned that I'm in Canada and cars tend to be quite a bit more expensive up here.

I agree, the seats are uncomfortable as hell. I once went on a 5 hour drive and once I got out of the car every time we stopped my back hurt like no other.

I agree that the e30 sport seats are more comfortable and hold better. My non-bolster adjustable seats don't hold as well in the corners and two foot driving the smg results in using the steering wheel to hold on, whereas in the e30, man, they grip. Stupid fat public.. getting fatter.
