Trade 2 Great Cars for E60 M5?

Well as the title suggests, I'm thinking about selling my E46 330i and my 05 modded WRX and purchasing an E60 M5 (2006). Of course it would HAVE to have an AM warranty covering everything except wear n tear items.

Do yall think thats a good idea?

Iím worried about maintenance. I maintain all my rides and I've heard that the E60 is not so shade-tree friendly. They say $2000 for a freakin brake job!! I'm sure though that the brakes couldn't be too far off from any other braking system and therefor serviceable by myself.

And aikmanson, yes I currently own all 4. The wifey drives the pepper though and the 944 is currently stuck in first gear thanks to a bunk ass transaxle I bought from an individual who swore it was in perfect working order. But thats another story.....

No unfortunately I have not. I've drooled over M5s since the mid-90s when I was old enough to understand what a marvel of engineering they are.

My 2yr old boy wont like the 911 so much in the back seat, if you can even call it that. Plus not as safe as the Cayenne in a wreck. I have considered the Carerra 4S because its like the turbo, but not. HAHA. My buddy and prior boss let me drive his 08 911 Turbo and it freakin BLEW ME AWAY!! That thing was auto and lit up all 4 tires when I gunned it at 45mph. Perma-Grin!!

Oh and the 944 was my first car so I'm hoping to keep it in the family.

The 944 is classic, don't get rid of it no matter how ugly it is lol...

However i am certain your son won't mind anything if it has to do with being in a 911, like every other toddler, child, adolescence, young man, and adult in this world. The 911 is the car to be in, no matter what seat.

Back to the OP, yes, i would go after that M5 all day long.

Gotta finish a few projects, vanos rebuild, fcabs, wheel refinishing and repair. I may just do this. So much time and $$$ in the WRX though....

Maybe I can keep the Rex! We will see.

Selling a 330i and 2005 WRX probably doesn't net you enough money to get into an E60 M5 with a warranty. So it all depends on what you want and how much money you're willing to put in on top. That car is obviously on another level compared to an E46 or a blobeye WRX. But, like you said...it wasn't built to be worked on in your garage for many things.

Do you want a high powered, complex, electrically sophisticated, monster of a full sized sedan?

M5 is becoming akin to the corvette when it comes to mid life crisis cars.

keep both cars.

Some of the E60 M5's have had gearbox and diff issues. Back in 06 I was headed to my dealer and there was a BRAND new M5 stuck on the overpass just about a mile from the dealer. When I got to the parts counter I mentioned there was a pretty nice BMW sitting on the bridge and the parts guy said "yea, the owner just got here, it is stuck in 3rd gear". That was the SMG of course.

But all in all, it is an amazing car. Get the warranty and enjoy!

I could be speaking out of turn... but if the man has a 2-year old and a 944 as a first car, this likely isn't a mid life crisis - third life maybe

Don't get the M5. If you are concerned at all about maintenance it will eat you alive. A CHEAP price for their rotors is a touch under $1000.

Also there is nothing wrong with the 944. If the real Porsche is solely the 911- well- bleh!

The M5 is a great car and all but if I were to do such a decision I would get something lighter and more compact... Maybe a 911 or if you prefer BMW id say a e92 M3.

And since the M6 shares a motor with it, get the RPI exhaust and it will sound like this......F1 car anyone?

Or you can keep the cars if you wish and get a e39 m5. The exhaust note on the e39 sounds so much better than the e60.
