Damos File

Hello all,

I am trying to learn all I can about possibly tuning the MSS54 DME, so bear with me if I sound a bit remedial. I'd like to know if there are more than one damos (A2L) files for this particular DME? If so, is it based off the different software versions?

Currently I have the euro tune flashed to my DME (7837793 current SMG) and I've done a hex dump using Galetto 1260. This is what I get when I load the bin file into WinOLS:

Checksums identified

Damos/A2L Imported and maps identified

I believe this is some sort of a VANOS Intake map???

And what I believe to be the VANOS Exhaust map???

As you can see there's not much identified using these maps. I've also tried to use the properties from WinOLS and incorporated them into an XDF to see how TunerPro RT would display, and not much there either (see below).

Anyone care to shed some light or am I just pretty much chasing my tail trying to figure this whole tuning thing out?

Yes, there's multiple versions for MSS52/MSS54/MSS54HP that require different locations.

But: your version seems to be the right one as you donīt get any warnings about unrecognized maps

AVAN means Auslass Vanos which translates to Exhaust vanos and EVAN means Einlass Vanos which obviously translates to Intake Vanos.

Playing with the damos files just gives you the map positions, a circumstance that is nice on one side but the real hard work does start now: setting the right offsets and factors to see real 3d graphs. otherwise its bit useless.

It rarely throws errors even on a version it's not intended for. You have to come up with the offsets yourself or use common sense to find like items.

found 3 damos files for MS43 and none worked for 430037, 430055 or 430066. i always got many unrecognized maps.

biggest difference was ~1000 of unrecognized maps , even the ~2400 recognized where hard enough.

Thanks for all the responses thus far. And daniel_f, thanks for that translation.

OK, so my homework tonight is trying to figure out offsets, which according to my Google search says:
Quote:
The difference between the address of a module and the specific location being referenced.
Again, sorry guys I'm learning.

Anyway, what I have done is taken the Damos file and broken it down into the 6 sections and translated it, the best I can, into English. What I have is:

CHARACTERISTICS
SCALARS
MEASUREMENTS
**(CAN'T REMEMBER THIS ONE)** I think it's CONVERSIONS
FUNCTIONS
RECORDS

This really helped me organize and get a grasp on how the information is being utilized and resolved.
