I like what sport mode does for the shift points, and it even seems to shift smoother in sport mode, but I don't like how sometimes it will just hang at high RPM before shifting, even after I've left off the pedal. I was left out to dry >6,000 RPM today because of this.

it heavily depends on which manual you talking about. Ive driven two M3's and absolutely hated the manual gearbox. its gritty and sticky as hell. very vague and heavy. felt like the transmission is lubricated with sand. I've never driven a manual that requires so much force to shift every time my hand comes off when I go into 2nd gear.
my RX8 on the other hand is absolutely peach to shift. that well oiled sucking in feel. perfectly weighted and clear.
It sounds to me like the M3 you drove had a messed up gearbox/linkage/bushings/etc. My 330 doesn't feel just right at the moment either, needs a trans flush and new bushings all around... might even get the DSSR since everyone raves about it. My old 325is and 318 though, had great gearboxes. I imagine any BMW that's had proper maintenance would shift the same way.

I'm not ashamed of my automatic transmission thread

I have a 2002 330Ci Sport/Cold/Premium package with 58k on it and a steptronic slush box and I'm ok with it. Some times I wish I had a manual and other times I am glad I don't. Post up about your slush box whip with pride, and pics.

Heres mine.

If I had an automatic, and only drove it 5000 miles a year, I'd probably like it ok too. That's about how much I drive rental cars, which are all automatic, and it isn't ruining my life. But it isn't my choice of what to own. Whatever turns your crank.

That's funny considering in numerous threads (pretty sure this is one of them) you said yourself that you bought your car because you didn't want to wait for a manual and would prefer a manual

Also, sounds to me that "sport" mode is simply an O/D off switch...

Is this a monthly thing now, or did you just see the thread of the dude that swapped in a manual trans into his car and got jealous?
