Hackers claim they have Romey's tax returns

And they're supposedly being ransomed for $1MM to whichever party pays first.

Oddly, hackers never seem to care about obtaining things from Democrat candidates. Go figure!

Yeah it doesn't really seem like hacking, more so breaking and entering.

It's going to say he pays 15 percent on his investments and next to nothing on the stuff off-shore. After the charity write-offs and other wealthy accounting tactics, he will pay less then me.

So.... He's like every other wealthy person in the this country, who cares.

FWIW - some context on what's already been released

Quote:
Romney certainly made a lot of money in 2010 - $21.7 million, according to his tax return - and yet his tax rate was about 13.9 percent. As we have noted before, he achieves this rate because much of his income is treated as capital gains and dividends, which are taxed at a preferential rate of 15 percent, and because he donates about 14 percent of his income to charity.

But most of Romney's taxes are federal income taxes. He pays relatively little in payroll taxes because the 6.2 percent Social Security tax maxes out once you earn a certain amount - $110,100 in 2012. Romney in effect earns that much by Jan. 3.

For most Americans, payroll taxes are the biggest tax item. (And that's not even including the share paid by employers. Most economists say employers pay for payroll taxes by cutting their employees' wages.)

People often confuse marginal tax rates with effective tax rates. Marginal rates are what you pay on each additional dollar of income, so that can be as high as 35 percent. The effective tax rate is the percentage of taxes you pay after deductions, adjustments and the like.

For all the rhetoric about high taxes in the United States, most Americans pay a relatively small percentage of their income in taxes. Romney had an effective rate of 13.9 percent in 2010 and 15.4 percent in 2011. That gives him a higher rate than 80 percent of taxpayers if only taxes on a tax return are counted and puts him just about in the middle of all taxpayers if payroll taxes paid by employers are included.

I feel like I'm being trolled.
There were two releases. I would say that the bitcoin part may be just someone trying to get free bitcoins and is not the work of the original cracker. But I could be wrong.
The original pastebin release on 9/2:
http://pastebin.com/zdU1TK40
Later pastebin release with the bitcoin stuff added in:
http://pastebin.com/1j1yzQ9S
The address for bitcoins to be sent to PREVENT release is:
1HeF89wMjC48bWNgWvVo7Wu3RaLW8XVsE8
Looking at the past transactions yields a bunch of small transactions from 9/5:
http://blockchain.info/address/1HeF8...7Wu3RaLW8XVsE8
Taking everything after the decimal as 8 bits and padding with zeros at the end, this translates in binary to 01000000 01101000 01110100 01110100 01110000 00111010 00101111 00101111 01101001 00101110 01101001 01101101 01100111 01110101 01110010 00101110 01100011 01101111 01101101 00101111 00110101 01101011 00110110 01010010 01100110 00101110 01110000 01101110 01100111
Which translates to the ASCII string:
That image is a QR code that reads:
011010000111010001110100011100000011101000101111001011110110 100100101110011010010110110101100111011101010111001000101110 0110001101101111011011010010111101101001
Which is the string:
Dammit. I was hoping it would be a scanned 1040 page, that would have been masterful.
The other address to PROMOTE release is:
12AP6iCwRNFQqKLStH3A4b4hw3SL6RaNgB
Looking at those transactions also from 9/5:
http://blockchain.info/address/12AP6...4b4hw3SL6RaNgB
01110100 01101001 00100000 01100101 01110110 01101111 01110010 01110000
Which gives the text "prove it".
This is ****ing hilarious. I'm anxiously awaiting the first flamewar in the Bitcoin blockchain. (very funny, 1EHnXs7iWTpvkUBAev4adWiszsW5itZcdi.)
edit:
Both of the verification keyphrases (presumably written on the packages so the receiver can verify the pastebin releases are from the crackers) are from Mormon speeches or writings:
1.all these considerations did not deter me from the path of duty
This is added in the second pastebin. If this is on another package received by either the DNC or the RNC, then the Bitcoin demand is real. If not, it's fake:
2.he moment I understood the will of my Heavenly Father
ed2: OK, fine. Received a PM. My address for tips:

Is donating millions of dollars to charities now considered a bad thing? How many millions have you donated to your favorite cause?

Is it a write off, sure, but what the hell, it's still giving to charity.

Also, when you say "pay less then me", I'm going to assume you mean as a percent of income, unless maybe you are paying the federal gov millions of dollars?

So if a rich guy pays 14% which is 3 million bucks, and you pay 18% which is $12,000, who is paying "more"?

Personally, I think every single person should pay a fixed, single, rate. I don't care if you made 5 bucks or 700 billion, fix the rate, no deductions, fair is fair. I know that's asking too much of the government though. It just bugs me a little when people say rich people pay "less", when they are individuals paying millions of dollars annually into the federal government, while the people bitching pay a couple grand.

CP is Child Pornography.
That could Nick Romney's public image if he was associated with Child pornography.
