obd 1 and 2

how can u tell wat mode ure car is using obd 1 or obd 2 i have a 323 e46 and have problems with engine mangiment light a mecanic has the obd 2 software but wants too know wat the car uses its a v reg 1999 if that helps lol

I can't understand your statement ... but there is an OBD 2 port in the down under the dash close to the steering column. You should be able to read the code from that port. I've done it before.

On models that old I don't think you can get the BMW specific codes (from the OBDII connector) which could tell better what's wrong. For that there is a round socket port on the passenger side under the hood.
