Started taking videos from the side and I notice that towards the end of my set as I fatigue, my ass gets up first along with my legs straitening. So ass higher in the air seems to be easier.
I know the feeling, you can pull the weight for 1-3 reps, but it just doesn't feel right. I've always been the type of want to stick in the 5-8 range for the big lifts, and every so often I'll see what my maxes are... and if I'm going up in 5-8 I've usually made big gains in my 1 to 2RM's.

...and that explains why you haven't seen any significant progress.

I'm going to keep switching it up. I like getting that "beaten down feel" from the high reps and then ending with a few reps at a heavy weight.

I agree that there aren't any "one size fits all" workouts, but there are approaches that have a higher hit rate than most.

I seem to top out on the 5 rep max lifts so I decided to try high rep to get my form better and a better beat down. We'll have to see how it goes.

trust me, lack of consistency is way more to blame. If you had seen the humble beginnings I've come from, my numbers show decent, yet sporadic, progress.

But I'm only a week into a prolonged strength/muscle gaining period, so here is my chance to show the gains I know I'm capable of... will be interesting to see

I think that helps develop the supplementary muscles that maybe are lacking (core etc) when you go over 90% 1RM... no clue if thats true or not but makes sense to me

It's also easier to bench if you flare your elbows and bounce it off your chest, but that doesn't mean it's good/safe/effective.

Do you guys not start to think "my form goes to hell when I lift the heavier weights, so maybe I'm not ready for those weights yet?"

that's exactly what I do. I drop down and work back up and it's some of the hardest decisions I ever make lol.

same... got stuck on squats and bench, went back down and now I'm well above where I was originally. Now that I've seen results doesn't hurt to do it, but at first it was definitely really hard to do... you just want to push as much weight as possible

Not until I get an injury from it. Haha

My form wasn't terrible towards the end, but definitely not the same as my first rep. Cheating and hurting yourself is one thing, but I think slight form breaks are acceptable at times.

I thought my back was still in a good position so that's what I'm more concerned with.

I've lost 26lbs (not by choice) since August and haven't deadlifted since then. Went to the gym today and got 315x5. That'll work.
