Shoes are in. I'm a little torn...the CF Nanos are great in that they're minimal drop with a dense sole. The Romaleos are definitely the best all-out Olympic shoe. The CF Oly is the weird part of the equation...seems to have less heel lift, but a flexible forefoot. I think I might like them more than the Nanos, which would negate the utility of the Romaleos. Guess I'll wear them around the house and figure it out.

Just started working on dead lifts 3 weeks ago. Been doing them with that wrap around cage that you basically have to squat up, and I love the barbell a hundred times more. Got 225 up for 2 reps today and felt great.

do not do that if it's in a smith machine. Is the thing you're talking about the rack with the barbell on a track?

I haven't either, but I've heard good things. I like using the traditional method, because of the difficulty/challenge it takes to master proper form. It only clicked for me about 3 weeks ago... I'm lucky I figured it out before I got really heavy
To this day I've seen two people in my gym deadlift properly; a "trainer" yesterday was watching a guy lifting a bar about 2 inches from his shins and saying Good reps. I don't think he knew proper form either

he was strong/ripped in the traditional sense, but I was working out beside them in a squat rack for awhile and overheard him telling his client about all the injuries hes had. Yeah I wasn't surprised to hear that

Thats what I'm talking about! Sorry for the miscommunication. I think my muscles would rip in half if I were dead lifting a smith machine. Today a lot of my body is sore from deads yesterday.

For you guys around 405 for a max, what does your rep/weight scheme look like for the rest of your DLs?

225 lbs. (1 x 10) 315 lbs. (1 x 5) 465 lbs. (1 x 2) 225 lbs. (4 x 9) ...that's an example DL rep scheme that I performed a week ago.

When the weight gets extreme, how do you go about setting it down? When I get tired, I try to stay controlled and place the bar down, maybe let it go about 6 inches or less from the floor. At my gym, most guys (D2 football kids who think they're going to the NFL tomorrow) literally slam the bar down from well over their knee height. Is there just a happy medium to avoid stress and straining your muscles to slowly place down so much weight and outright releasing weight from height?

Anyone who slams down a bar they deadlift has improper form imo.
Once you come down from full lockout, you want to bend at the hips first (not the knees) and let the bar travel naturally down your legs as you "sit" down with it again. Your knees will bend naturally, you shouldn't be hitting them hard with the bar. Smooth controlled motion, if it means you can't lift as much so be it.

Pretty touch to read through 700 posts... but did any of you guys follow the SS method of doing 5 sets heavy weight?
Wednesday 3x5 Squat 3x5 Press / Bench Press (Alternating) 1x5 Deadlift

The SS method is 1 set of 5 at a heavy weight. I know my 5 rep max would not happen for 5 sets.
