55" Mitsubishi HDTV rip-off?

I purchased a 55" Mitsubishi rear projection HDTV model WS-55613 not too long ago from a local electronics store. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a 55" screen measure exactly 55" across? I measured my screen today and found out that it was actually 48" across. I know Mitsubishi makes the TV in 48" screen sizes, but redesignates the model as WS-48613. I guess it's safe to say they pulled a fast one on old Ed, eh? I'll be paying those @$$holes a visit today.

Yes, measure Diagonal over the screen.

I know that CRT screens are assigned x" across the physical monitor, diagonally But TFT are assigned x" across the actual screen of the monitor, diagonally.

Don't know about tv's tho.

I feel like a jackass. It is 55" from corner to corner. Mods please delete this thread before people discover that I'm a damn fool.

At least you didn't get all riled up at the store...now that would've been a mess.

I can't fathom the embarrassment. It's a good thing I posted here first. Off-Topic saves the day once again.
