Unhappy Any car insurance experts/agents here?

I was living in Boston for three years and had my car registered in MA, but recently moved back to my home of NYC in mid-May. As soon as I moved back, I switched back to a NY driver's license, which necessitated a switch to a different car insurance provider. Partially because I've been really stressed and busy (but mainly because I'm an idiot), I neglected to cancel my MA car insurance policy. The company has been withdrawing money from my bank account for the past couple months and I didn't notice this until today.

What are the chances I can get this money back and do you guys have any tips for things I can say or do to plead my case? Technically, the provider (Liberty Mutual) was insuring nothing because my MA registration didn't even exist anymore. However, this was obviously my fault.

typically possible for a refund if you can show there was other coverage in place (i.e. a dec page)

The dec page would be the most helpful thing to plead your case. Your now current insurance provider should have also Contacted liberty mutual about the cancellation as well. Any ethical company (I say that because our agency did that a few times while I worked there) would instantly refund the money upon proving that there was insurance in place to cover the vehicle during the same time. Although, since this was an oversight on our part and not on the part of liberty mutual it will be a tough case to plea. I sincerely wish you the best luck... I used to hate dealing with agents until I worked with them and learned a lot about it! Ha
