Apple TV..who has one?

I am seriously considering getting one, as my WD Live TV is turning out to be a giant POS. I can't get anything to stream with my belkin 750 HD router, and it's only one room away. I've just about given up on it..The fact that I'll be getting an iphone 4s is luring me as well. But I have heard that I can't play just any file through the apple tv. Is this true? I have a lot of Top Gear etc. downloaded, and don't want to be stuck and limited to what apple will LET me play(IE downloaded movies through Itunes only) Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I have an Apple TV and I love it. I can effortlessly stream anything in the right format from my MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad. I can even use it to mirror my desktop or my ipad screen to my Plasma. It's awesome. They really got it right. It's responsive and extremely easy to use. Netflix is great on it as well.

My parents do. It works great if everything you do is h.264 or netflix. You can jailbreak the older ones to play more formats from more devices but they sell for $150+ and are 720p.

I use mine mainly for Netflix. Thy just added support for Hulu as well. If you have any apple device you can wirelessly play content on you tv or do mirroring.

love it ! if you have an iPhone 4s or 5 or iPod touch 5th gen or iPad 3rd/4th gen. Macs etc you can mirror your devices to your tv. Gaming Videos movies streaming so easy. When they say Apple makes it simple they really do. Before with Apple you had to go into system preferences, not a huge problem. Now what ever app you are in, you just click the Airplay button and pair your devices. Very simple. No fuss. Down side is that Appletv only works with APple stuff. Roku is another option.

What I like is that my photos look really nice on AppleTv even if they are streaming from my iTouch. My photos on my DSLR look like crap on my tv.

When they started talking about Apple TV I wonder how many people thought they were actually going to manufacture televisions ?

I used to play Super Nintendo on a G3 the same way. Some people may remember the juggling game from Mario RPG. Capture and slow-mo was very helpful

I also had a VCR hooked up as a tuner so I could watch TV on my computer. OG dvr.

That's the old AppleTV. The current one isn't jailbreakable yet. For my setup I ran an HDMI cable from my computer to a splitter then to each TV. No format problems for me.

It pretty much comes down to this: The AppleTV is great if you pay for content. If you want to torrent crap all day, you're not gonna have a good time.
