3.0 swap

Hey guys, I recently did a 3.0 swap on my 03 325xi. Not sure if anyone is interested, but I picked up a 2001 330xi from Craigslist with 160k for $400, and from there the work began. Pulled the motor, changed the ofhg, valve cover, plugs, exhaust manifold gaskets, rear main seal, ccv, vanos line, vanos. Runs great, if anyone is thinking of doing this or has any questions let me know!

I actually finished it already! I've gone almost 2k since the swap... I just wanted to make this thread because although I knew you could do it quite easily while searching it I couldn't find anyone that actually did it.

Night and day man, I can't wait to see what it does on the quarter mile, I have a diff swap and a short shifter and with the 325xi I ran a 15.89... I should now get(hopefully) low 14s high 13s

ok i have a question..

1: does it have to be 330xi specific engine? will a 330i/ci will work?
2: did you reuse the 325 tranny, clutch, flywheel, rear driveshaft or pulled everything from the donor car

All 3.0s are the same, the reason I used a 330xi is because I could swap the ecu ews keys etc... And I used all the same stuff from the 2.5 you described, but that's only because they were both 5 speeds, the 5 speed and 6 speed have a different clutch(not 100% sure about the flywheel)

6 speed flywheel is different and so is the driveshaft.

You're 100% correct, but that's a pretty easy swap, just take it off your engine and put it on the new one, the oil pump is the same I believe

Is it? I have no idea, never messed with a 6 speed... Actually I'm pretty sure on an xi the driveshaft is the same man

Yup it's different. It was from 3/2003 models and up. When I did the swap to manual I needed to get that specific clutch/flywheel and driveshaft to work with the transmission. Fortunately the guy i bought it from had the driveshaft so I just ordered the rest separately.

Yeah, my major concern when doing it was the ecu and making sure it was good for a 330... That's why getting a donor car helped so much... Yeah it was a steal for 400, keep your eye out man, trust me they pop up

Yeah but when you do a manual swap on a nonxi you have to swap the driveshaft to, but not with an xi... http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...=961342&page=2. Here is a guy that did the 6 speed swap on his xi and didn't change the driveshaft, just for confirmation

$400 is a hell of a deal, my 2003 xi with 135k got totaled a year ago and it cost me $1100+ to buy it back.

Damn haha, yeah I couldn't pass it up for that, I knew the engine alone was worth way more
