SC or NOS?

hey guys, im new here and would like some opinions.....i have a 2002 325xi at about 140k miles on it and i would like to get some extra horsepower. Is it even worth it at that mileage to supercharge it or nos? and how hard would it be to turbocharge it?

Oh turbo too? I didn't actually read the post. I think you should get the rotary and the headers and the turbo and the pistons and just get all that.

If you have to ask, don't even try.

A supercharger or Turbo install on these cars is very expensive >$5k and complex.

A Nitrous Oxide setup would be significantly cheaper. A dry 50 shot could be under $1500 for install, however you would need to refill the tank every so often depending on how often you go WOT.

Think of it this way:
Is it really worth all of that money and time/headaches to go a half second faster to 60 mph? Will you enjoy the little speed more than worrying that something will go wrong?

There is a reason we don't have many power modified 325s on this forum.

Only professionals should use a Wet setup (75 shot+) because it injects fuel into the intake manifold. that is where explosions happen.

I just have such a hard time seeing anybody put a PENNY into making a 325 more powerful. It is a HUGE waste IMO. Sell the car and buy a used M. now is perfect time to buy. Even with a 330, you have a chance for some fun. But a 325.....just forget about it. Really.

At least do an engine transplant,,,an S54...anything but what you have.

I dont like the idea of NOS on anything except as a spray bar to cool the OUTSIDE of an intercooler. Nos is so potentially dangerous to your motor and you get only a few seconds and you are done. Finished. Refills all the time...time after time have got to be a pain.

Power adders should be on demand and something available all the time. I can see so many situations where you have blown your load (emptied the NOS bottle) and need more desperately ....at 11Pm on a Sat. night 30 miles from home.

Tom's NOS is much differnt. he already has HUGE power and is using it as icing. Dome properly, it can have a cooling effect and work just great sprayed on a turbo car. Even with fail safes, I have still heard of guys exploding their motors. I personally would never chance using NOS. It can turn your motor to dust in a split second.

Yes, I am sure there are plenty of guys that can post that they have done hundreds of sprays. There are plenty that only did ONE spray too. It was a doozy.

Danger to the manifold!

Seriously, you need to set a budget. M54B25 could be good tuning platform but it gets very expensive.
The good thing about the 2.5 is shorter stroke - lower piston speed. It also doesn't suffer from crank vibrations like the 3.0. This makes it good for NA tuning. The power comes from raising the redline.
But I repeat, this is even more expensive than forced induction.

With turbos you can always have an annoying boost leak. Coupler blow off etc, the more parts you add the more things that can break. Nitrous is very safe, and the most reliable. Hit the dyno tune your system from there. Don't get discouraged man. People said the same sh!t to me. Have fun with it.

So I thought this was a joke thread, but if you're going to take it seriously, ignore my previous post.

i know this is an old thread...but you can tell that the fanatics have migrated to newer cars, or just got tired of the negative comments. Lets support each other with constructive suggestions, and use this forum correctly..not just entertain yourself by insulting people for ASKING QUESTIONS! A 60hp shot of NOS can be done safely if you install it correctly. Just make sure your careful. Good luck.
