Quick Question: Is a rear shock mount necessary?

I have a BMW 323ci. I changed my rear shock today because they were functioned. One of the shock mount was also broken. However, the store was out of this mount. I really do not want to go there and wait again. I just want to know whether or not a mount is necessary for a car. Or it just kills the noise. BTW, I do hear noise.
Thank you.

Your shock mount is broken. Get a new one. Yes, it is very necessary.

I don't even know what to say. This is a question? How can you even expect to install a component without its mount? Are engine mounts necessary? I bet you can answer that one.

Neither am I, but I'll give you a break. Shock mounts are REQUIRED. What do you mount to shocks to if you don't have shock mounts? Also, replace both rear shock mounts, because the other one is going to fail anyway.

In addition to the shock and upper mount, which is necessary and they do fail, you need the actual bumper that goes on the shock rod and the dust cover.

Many times other hardware is wise to replace when you are installing shocks and struts as they are usually only replaced every 7-10 years by most folks.

Well you obviously can't go without one because all that's there is a big hole without it. And none of this is opinion.

Quick Question: Is a rear shock mount necessary?

Wait what? How do you have a shock installed without a mount?! Is the shock just dragging on the ground?

Thanks for all the reply.
Anyway, I spent about $450 to replace two rear shocks($295), one tire($78), and tire alignment service($60) plus tax?
Is the price reasonable?

No, because replacing the rear shocks is a 20-30 minute job...not to mention, rear shocks are $90 each. You overpaid by $115.

The one tire and alignment was very reasonable. Particularly the alignment.
