It would be real tough to pull those kinda dollars buddy.. I say that not as a jab at your car but rather because of the reality the buyer would find himself in.

A guy at the OC car show two years ago came up to me and was like "finally.. you're chase right?". Anyways, he had been trying to find me for the last 24 hours as he had seen my car online and wanted to know if I'd consider selling it to him. I told him I would but, with everything I put in it, that I'd probably only do it for an outrageous pricetag.. dead serious he responded "name your price". I jokingly said I'd let it go for 30 anticipating him to roll his eyes or something.. instead, he gave me his business card and said he'd be in touch to finalize the transaction when he got back home. Sure enough, a few days later he got in touch with me, we agreed on a price, and he went to get a loan for the car.

That's when everything fell apart. Reason being, the bank won't make an auto***** on a car far above the standard KBB value. So, when he tried to take out twenty-something thousand to cover the rest of the cost of the vehicle, the bank told him to go f himself (it's a poor investment on their end). I'm sure you could sell it for that much (and it's definitely worth it) it's just got to be somebody with 30k in their wallet.

Chase, even you should know it is not fair to compare your car to mine.

They are completely different animals inside and out

and I would not expect a buyer who needed a loan or did not have the means to come correct in the first place. I hold no loan and own this car outright and it's insured to 35k now so worst case scenario that's what I'd get back if total loss

Chase has made a valid point for once. If someone were to buy your car well over the assessed value, it would have to be in cash on hand.

LOL @ 'name your price', and then going to finance it, tho.


Same thing for a house, bank won't let you borrow more than its worth.

FWIW, I imagine the type of buyer that would be interested in your car (and appreciate the uniqueness/bmw enthusiasts) would have much deeper pockets than the boy racer that would want mine. And it definitely was roflcopter to have the guy say "name your price" and then try and get the bank to cover the check his mouth ran

I would have loved to be a fly on that wall.

word, I hear that. No worries either, and I have no plans to sell it actually. Maybe I'll throw it up in Roundel for 40k OBO and see if I get any interest, and I would not expect much but it can't hurt to try.


I'm actually trying to figure out what new car or truck to get next so I can start building this one up for FI.

Buy a P38 as a beater. It will require some TLC but damn they are fun (and actually affordable to keep happy if you are willing to put in the work)

yeah, I can't decide what I want to do. Would like a 4x4 for those times when chit is hectic, but also like cars. 4 door sedans are out, and I would prefer brand new and under 25k.

I've got one, new job to be wants to give me another. Not sure what kind, though, but apparently my secret isn't good enough.

At least it's online now, and not the inch and a half talk stack of paperwork I had to go through last time
