right engine mounts?

Im getting ready to replace my engine mounts on my 2001 330xi. While looking at them I saw that they are part metal like the ones pictured (left image). While looking online to order new ones, I came across ones that were purley rubber (right image), unlike the ones currently on the car. Will either kind work? or only the ones with the metal outer shell? Thanks!

Those are the correct engine mounts for an xi. IIRC the one pictured on the left is the passenger side mount and the other is the drivers side mount.

What are the symptoms of needing your mounts replaced? I'm curious because I'm trying to diagnosis a problem on my XI

There's usually more vibration felt because the engine isn't as secured and has some play to move, not sure on the other symtoms. However for me, my passenger side mount, started to leak oil when I was replacing my FCAB, so it was obvious.

Here's the passenger-side MM from my 10-year-old 325xi at 133k miles. This is normal wear. Note the compression. The solid rubber MM was also compressed but not as much.

I could feel the engine idling, especially through the steering wheel. Now the car feels like new.

I used Corteco motor mounts, which are clearly what BMW used. Less money than "BMW" branded units.

Popping out of 3rd gear at the track while cresting a hill at WOT.

Or bad axles - worn motor mounts kill front axles.

Excessive engine vibration. At idle and stopped, you should not feel the engine at all. Even while revving in neutral, you should not feel the engine at all.

The symptoms you describe are exactly what is going on in my XI. Were did you get your mounts from?

Thanks!
