Hey guys, never posted on the m3 section before but have been on e46 fanatics for a while.
Anyway, i have a problem. The smg doesn't stop priming (sound when unlocking or opening the car door) and makes a beeping sound as well, it's coming from the smg reservoir. (attached video showing the problem: ) Is it because my fluid is low? If so what fluid do I use? And what is the cause? Also the smg cog is yellow. Car is in neutral with handbrake on(shown on the attached pic) ![]() Car seems to drive fine with the cog on yellow, but haven't driven it since i've heard the smg continuous priming. For now, i've disconnected the battery. Hopefully you gurus on here can help me ASAP and any body in the future having this problem. Thank you so much in advanced.

I *think* that the fluid for the SMG is Pentosin CH11s.

If the pump is constantly activated then most probably your pressure accumulator tank is kaput also check for leaks on your clutch actuator.
Good luck.

Well I went to my trusted mechanic today and he ran the codes. He suspects it's the pump as it says that it's losing pressure or something.
Anyway rang up BMW and they said I can bring it in straight away but won't be ready for a while cause of Xmas, i thought may as well, so i did. I've dealt with a few service people at this Stealership before and they were useless and rude. Fortunately I got a good one today who was kind and helpful and also got me to talk to the mechanic who was also very nice. Hopefully all goes well! It's all under warranty. LUCKY! I'll keep you updated and hopefully this will help anyone else in the future.

*UPDATE*
Got the car back from BMW yesterday. BMW said that they just replaced the salmon coloured relay and 'reprogrammed' the system. Car seems to work fine now. __________________

I replaced the salmon colored relay, and it immediately fixed the problem! Oh, also, no "reprogramming of the system" was necessary. Sounds like a BMW excuse to add an aditional $300 of labor, since swapping a relay takes 5 seconds...stealership Last edited by abqm3; 10-03-2012 at 10:57 AM. |

Nice bump. Glad to hear it worked out. Keep a spare salmon relay with you in the car!
