See what I mean? This guy should be ecstatic that he's receiving compensation above his salary for doing nothing more than his job, yet somehow you're the bad guy because you didn't give him enough extra.

Screw that entitled mentality.

Maybe it's a California thing, but standard insurance flat out will not cover your vehicle while delivering. Nor will the business insurance. While on delivery, you're essentially driving with liability only.

Yup. It's now a business vehicle and your family auto policy won't cover it in many states. Even your liability coverage can be at risk.

Also, though, not on the list of things I'm concerned about.

Please elaborate on this.

You walk into a restaurant, the waiter greets you, introduces himeself, takes your order, and you receive your food within reasonable time and everything is satisfactory.

You don't tip 15% on that? If so, well what the hell were you expecting from this "service"?

He should get paid extra for doing exactly what's expected of him? And he has very little to do with how long it takes for me to get my food.

depends if there is a delivery charge or not, but usually

1 pizza $2-3
2 pizza's $4-5

never really order anything other then that.

Actually, no. He has everything to do with how long it takes to get your food. A good waiter will expedite as necessary. Ask me how I know. Yes I know sometimes kitches run behind, but your waiter is still relatively responsible for taking charge and getting your food out to you.

I'll ask again. If someone provides typical, satisfactory service to you, you don't give them a tip? You won't give someone 5 dollars for bringing you food and a couple drinks?

I answered your question already. I'll do it again, though. Why on earth should he get paid extra for doing exactly what is expected of him?

Says who? Based on what? It's proper for me to pay extra because guy does his job at a restaurant?

Why are these service people tip worthy but not others?

Where does this asinine tradition come from?

Guess what? If douchebag delivery boy doesn't think your dollar or two tip is enough, you may end up with a sausage pizza the next time you order. Why should I pay this kid extra? A "please don't **** on my pizza" bribe? Fvck that.

Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair.

I did however, tip my urologist, because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

Honestly, I'm not sure where it came from, but the main reason I tip (and tip well, typically) is because I spent a lot of time in the service industry when I was younger. Tipping a college kid who is busting his ass could make or break his or her night. I know how good I felt or how happy I was when I received a good tip at that age (which wasn't all that long ago), so it's nice to be fortunate enough to be able to pass that along.

Where did I say you were? I was talking about why I do it, not about why you should or should not.

I really do believe that a majority of people who spent any amount of time in the service industry tend to tip better than average.

I used to be a delivery driver. If you order under 20$ of food, I would be content with a 3$ tip, since there are so many people who only tip a dollar. Know how far the driver has to go , if you are on the edge of their delivery area, be nice and throw in a few extra bucks . Nothing is worse than driving to the far reaches of a delivery area only to get tipped a 2$.

Unless you spend over 40$, a driver can't complain with a 5-8$ tip. But I won't lie, nothing made me happier than the people who tipped generously, and it always made my night.

Then again I'm a normal, nice guy and a lot of drivers are fat bastards.
