Fixing cigarette burn in seat
so, this happened the other week, and im not happy about it. im not going into details, but i got a cigarette burn in my back seat. it was pretty bad. i researched online and found furniture clinic to be my best chance at fixing it.
http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/ end result, almost, un-noticable. im very pleased with the result. now...ive never done a write up...so here it goes. i bought the leather repair kit as well as the leather touch up kit in grey. they shipped it from europe and it arrived in San Diego in 3 days ![]() i started with the leather repair kit. using the scalpel i scrapped away all the burnt leather down to fesh leather. the burn was bad, so i had to cut a hole in the seat. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() then i inserted a small piece of fabric that was included and glued in underneath the leather ![]() ![]() after that dried i was ready to use the heavy filler. it took about 3-4 layers of adding filler, letting it dry and finally sanding. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() finally i did a color match to get the right grey and slowly blended a spot over any damaged leather. and then a clear sealant over the top, you need about 3 parts gloss and 2 parts matte for these seats, this is difficult to get right and may take a few tries. getting it just right makes all the difference ![]() ![]() ![]() ill get better pictures of everything during the day tomorrow. it turned out great. let me know if you guys have any questions, id be more than glad to help. |

I'll say it... Awesome job! I've always wondered how good those kits worked. Maybe everyone is waiting for the "details" of how that happened in the back seat.

My Ride: no dead pedal 330i
|
Good Job! Cigarette burns have happened to everyone, don't beat yourself up too bad. Of course, no one smokes in my 330i so I better not ever get a burn in it. I used to smoke black and milds, and one day on the way home from work it blew into the back seat of my IS300, left a nice scortch in the alacantra. I wasn't nearly as anal about that car though....
