I'll be damned if I clap for anything for 10 minutes. While standing.

I watched cloud atlas on Friday. I thought it was terrible except for a few things: makeup was awesome (I'm sure they will win the oscar for makeup), although it was super cheesy when they made white people look Asian and vice versa; cinematography was good.
I just didn't get the story. it's hard to follow even for the most observant, and it just doesn't end up anywhere. Don't expect the stories to weave together well. All the interweaving is artificial, and of little significance. I think with their latest movie, it's quite obvious that the Washowski magic was ripping off other writers. The movie is just too artificial. Sidenote: When the credits were rolling, I was thinking: Is this the same Wachowski family that made the Matrix? I don't remember them having a sister... lol... That's a bummer about the storyline. In the book the stories work pretty well together. I didn't get to see the movie this weekend but hope to get out to see it sometime this week. |

I am really excited for The Great Gatsby, Les Mis might be good, The new James Bond, Flight, lots of good stuff out there; quite a contrast to the last few years.

yup, we'll see if it's good enough for word of mouth to get it making money but for an "independent" film, $70mm+ to make it plus whatever it costs to market it is pretty high.
It should do better percentage-wise than the HUGE bomb that Battleship was.
