My touring's progress!

Hi guys,

I've had my tourer now for 5 years, it spent the first 4 years as the family car for the wife, kids and dogs. We decided that I was time for a new family smoker and the bm got left to me, to as I pleased.

This is how it started out.

A standard 318i msport touring, 17" style 68 wheels, full black leather.
I swapped the wheels a couple of times while it was the family car, I wanted 18's so I got some mv1's and had them refurbed. I also fitted oem black kidney grills.

Sorry about the poor picture, anyway I hated these, mainly down to the colour choice. So they were sold after 2 weeks and I got some style 32's in e46 fitment.

Right fast forward to the last year that I've had it, and the first thing I did was order some coilovers, and I got hottunning.

I had also fitted amber lights. It's was long over due a paint correction, so spend a few days detailing it.

Decided I wanted power seats so got some motorised frames, and lumbar. And retro fitted these.

I wanted new wheels, so got some genuine bbs rs2's 18x8.5 et38, had the arches rolled and fitted 15mm spacers all round.

I decided to m3 front brakes up front, as the standard 1's were stuffed.

I also fitted a m3 strutbrace and a dynavin head unit. This is an on going project.
I'm halfway through dyeing the interior cinnamon, and I'm hope to do a m3 engine swap later in the year.

Love the RS2's! Everytime I see a set of them come up for sale, I curse the fact that they are always out of my budget.

Great look touring. Keep us posted on the motor swap. Create a thread documenting it if you have the time and desire.

I find it funny that over here in North America we want the clear corners and tails. Over there in Europe, you guys seem to swap them out for ambers. We should get all the Touring owners online together and do one big swap!

Forgot to say that I love your car....I love your car!
If you're thinking about getting rid of those clear tails....I know a pretty steel blue touring in Canada that they would look great on!

The install is fairly easy, just take your time with installing the air bags, as the seat frame can be sharp. Wear gloves to as like is said the frame is sharp.
I've not got many pics, but the 1's I've got give you the idea of what's needed.

The seat was already in bits as I was do a swap to electric bases. Anyway take the seat backs off, and I zip tied the seat springs up to the seat frame. As the air bags have to be installed between the springs and the seat cushions.

I found it best to fold the bag in half and post it through the seat frame and under the springs.

When you have it in, the bag is quite soft and easy to move. So you have to get it lay flat (not folded in 2) take your time and take care with the 2 pipes.
Once it's in right, run the 2 pipes dwn the side and though the hole in the bottom of the seat frame. And release the zip ties.

Connect the 2 pipes to the valve and motor, and these simply bolt to the frame.

The wiring simple connects to the main control panel of the memory seats, and switch goes in the seat trim.

And that's it really, install the seat back on, and refit the seat back into the car. Take a seat and enjoy back support
