it's been making it a few months now. just haven't had time or motivation to get in gear and get organized. all my parts finally came in

You said you got the new bearings from AutoZone? Which brand? I'd like to pick up some front and rear when I do my full suspension overhaul in January.

May the force be with you. My last one (driver's side front) is coming in today, but not sure the dust caps are. So I will most likely be doing this tomorrow. Wish me luck!

P.S. If you have any issues with the rears, PM me if during normal weekday hours and I'd be glad to help out. Did you get all the HF tools you need? remember what I posted in my wa wa wa thread about the Edz Garage video not really being perfect in terms of removing the rear hub. If I had to do this all over again, I would without a doubt, 100% invest in two new brake dust shields because they get mangled from removing the hub. Hope your E-brake shoes and rear rotors are not that old either because it's an absolute btch dealing with that after replacing the bearings. I need all new springs, shoes and rotors very soon, but I just want the wa wa wa to go away first, then I'll be happy!

NAW, BMAparts.com is by far the best and cheapest and highest quality. Do not get from Autozone.

I think him and another member said that AutoZone sold OEM replacements but I'm not sure of the brand. Maybe Timken? BMA is the ****... I've ordered a lot of parts from them recently and been more than satisfied.

Autozone sells front OEM bearings rebadged as Timken. I'll pick them up today and post pictures. I got everything else from BMA. Here's the master parts list you'll need:

Why would he care about what his car looks like on the track? Tape is just a cheap way to save your paint. He removed it afterwards I promise.

Someone did buy the fronts for around $40 from autozone and got a Timken box, but I believe it was a F.A.G. inside the box. But they go lucky as others have tried the same thing and it varies based on your location. You might go in and see if they have it in stock so you can open the box and look, but I wouldn't order it.

BMAparts.com has been absolute best for me for ordering the bearings lately. Fronts are SKF, made in Germany (someone said they might be the japanese equivalent of F.A.G. and go for around $73 I think, rears are genuine F.A.G. made in Germany OE equivalents for $38 a piece. And you KNOW that is the brand that you will get when ordering it. Free shipping on most orders too based on the price! I think over $50. Have to get the dust caps and axle nuts somewhere else though, and you get flailed for shipping charges, which sucks. But anything is better than the dealer!

Not 100% true. Flashtwosix bought them from autozone online and she was shipped Koyo bearings which are apparantly no-name brands. She did this two different ways and got the same thing each time.

Hmmm I'll keep an eye out on them and if they are in stock i'll make sure to check them out before buying them.

I just called Autozone right now and I had the parts guy open the box and read the name to me:

"F.A.G. Made in Germany"

hey mango....you won't believe this but the hardest part was removing the brake caliper because the 16mm is sometime seized. my front passenger 16mm was so seized that I broke THREE breaker bars.

tapping the bearing was very easy. just use plenty of grease and use an over size socket so you can cover the inner race.

I bought my Timken from autozone for $47 each. Autozone charges different prices based on your geographic location so just change the store to get the cheaper price and get it shipped to your house for FREE (free shipping over $100).

The Timken bearing is either = unknown (verfied by bimmer garage, myself), *** (verified the OP) or Koyo (Japan) (verified by me)

*** is the OE supplier for BMW wheel bearing.

the only special tool you need for the front is the correct socket size to remove the wheel bearing collar nut. also, you need a new collar nut since the old one can't be reuse (technically)."
