If you know the area you would understand. I live in the Mission school district of Fremont and it's the same as Cupertino. Tiny old homes for a million bucks. It's all for the schools. I didn't find an active listing here so picked a similar listing in Cupertino to illustrate the point.

Um.... took 3 clicks to find these:

http://www.redfin.com/CA/Fremont/175...9/home/1850236

http://www.redfin.com/CA/Fremont/567...39/home/527355

Definitely looks like you can get A LOT more home in your area than the one you posted in cupertino. Both of these are bigger, have more land and cost over $200K less.

Likewise, people don't brag about having Fremont addresses the way they do Cupertino.

Why would one do the opposite? Pay more for a new neighborhood and brag? New neighborhoods tend to be inconveniently located.

Cupertino has more cache, U MAD BRO?

All are between 950,000 - 1,100,000 and within 5 miles of my ZIP code. Most are between 3,000-7,000 sq/ft with a few outliers.

Crap, am I the only one that posted something in my area - like "able to hit a golf ball off my patio and land it in their yard" close?

Not all of us have the liberty to hit golf balls at million dollar homes from our patios. Had to resort to within 5 miles. mabad

Haha I'm lamenting the fact that we're paying so much money for such a crappy house compared to the rest of the country, and you actually think it's a plus.

Congrats. You win the of the day award.

There are a lot of trees on the hillside, as long as I'm not obvious about it nobody will know where it came from.

How is it not a plus? If you look at which houses hold their value or appreciate above average, "crappy" expensive houses are one of the better investments. As long as its livable and you can afford it what difference does it make whether it looks impressive?

I think it's a lot worse to buy a big impractical house in the middle of nowhere just so you can be pimpin' in the exurbs.

Fremont is actually considered a very desired neighborhood to live in. My friends families include inventor of the original pentium, president of ASUS, founder of Antec, VP of Cicso Systems, etc. Been living there for the past 22 years and is conveniently located.

Home in the town over from me. Nice house but pretty small compared to what you guys have been posting. Westchester has some very expensive property. 2-3mil and the houses start looking like the above
