If you know the area you would understand. I live in the Mission school district of Fremont and it's the same as Cupertino. Tiny old homes for a million bucks. It's all for the schools. I didn't find an active listing here so picked a similar listing in Cupertino to illustrate the point.

Definitely looks like you can get A LOT more home in your area than the one you posted in cupertino. Both of these are bigger, have more land and cost over $200K less.

Likewise, people don't brag about having Fremont addresses the way they do Cupertino.

Why would one do the opposite? Pay more for a new neighborhood and brag? New neighborhoods tend to be inconveniently located.

All are between 950,000 - 1,100,000 and within 5 miles of my ZIP code. Most are between 3,000-7,000 sq/ft with a few outliers.

How is it not a plus? If you look at which houses hold their value or appreciate above average, "crappy" expensive houses are one of the better investments. As long as its livable and you can afford it what difference does it make whether it looks impressive?

I think it's a lot worse to buy a big impractical house in the middle of nowhere just so you can be pimpin' in the exurbs.

Fremont is actually considered a very desired neighborhood to live in. My friends families include inventor of the original pentium, president of ASUS, founder of Antec, VP of Cicso Systems, etc. Been living there for the past 22 years and is conveniently located.

Home in the town over from me. Nice house but pretty small compared to what you guys have been posting. Westchester has some very expensive property. 2-3mil and the houses start looking like the above
