I was browsing CL when this car popped up, and the price was amazing, plus the Imola Red Interior had me drooling, and then I noticed the tamper dot. Just thought it would be a good idea to share with fellow E46Fanatics, jsut so no one gets ripped off by this SOB

@dee0007, Look at Jake's post, that's the tamper dot, it 90% of the time will appear when the mileage has been tampered with.

Correct .....most of the time if the cluster,ecu,lcm has been changed,but there may be reasons why. Do a car fax on it if you are going to buy it.
My friends car is got it, because cluster was bad and we changed it.the car actually shows more miles than it actually has.

The thing is VG, If there is any form of mileage change, it's required by LAW to have the original mileage on a sticker [most likely a certified] to be installed on the car. And If this owner was honest, [Which obviously he's not] He would have mentioned something like a cluster change. BUT he said its just a dot, and I was "Just trying to lower the price on a car that was already a good deal"

this car is a mickey mouse... it has sport interior but hologen headlights. that's a miss match. all sport packs had xenons... he put that interior in and who knows what else.

Not in 2001. My car has the sport pack with halogens as well. Definitely not a legit seller though, stay far away.

Well, the guy is stupid, but not necessarily criminal (it is crime to alter mileage: http://www.justice.gov/civil/cpb/cas...rStatutes.html). He could just replace the LCM by an used one, for example. But he is stupid to sell the car with the tamper dot. It is very easy to check what the mileage stored in all other than IKE modules, as well as very easy to get rid of the tamper dot...
